Excellent Educational DVD's

LeapFrog Dvd's have a been a big hit with all four of my kids for years. My oldest being 11 now really enjoyed the talking word factory when she was younger, and her now 9 year old brother watched letter factory daily. Both are exceptional readers and score above average on standardized tests now. When I saw the price of these sets I couldn't pass them up. My newly 6 year old son really enjoys the math Dvd's. He improved his counting ability in Kindergarten from being able to count to 12 the first grading period to being able to count to 100 the second. The teacher was very impressed. While my youngest who is 2 LOVES letter factory. She is already picking up most of the letters and sounds. She really enjoys the little songs. I would recommend these Dvd's to anyone with young children who wants something educational that is going to keep their child's interest.

Great tool!

I bought this collection for when my daughter is actually going to need it - with her being 3 it's a little advanced, but she still enjoys watching it and really liked the Math Adventure to the Moon. The songs on the DVDs are good, although some of them are a little difficult even for me to follow - like the "skip counting song." Overall, however, this was a great purchase at a great price!

Great Learning DVD's

We have a few of the LeapFrog Learning DVD's and were thrilled when we received this one as well! It is awesome and my three year old absolutely loves it. His favorite is the Math Circus and then I would have to say the Word Capers. It's such a great way to help them learn their numbers, counting and even sounding out words. It is not only educational but fun as well so it keeps their attention.

not worth the price

The previews are longer than the movies; all trying to sell the other leap frog movies. Extremely hard to sit through the in-your-face advertising that builds you up for no more of an educational experience than your toddler would get from watching Sesamie Street for free on public access tv. Complete garbage, I could have bought an entire season of any Disney Jr program and gotten 100 times more for the money.

waste of money

Bought this item and only one of the DVDs work. The other two skip (repeat the same thing over and over)...waste of money! Buy directly from Amazon instead of this seller.

Disappointed

I got this because a friend gave me the older ones. This doesn't give you the sounds of the alphabet as they're learning them. I was disappointed because there's a lot out there for learning their ABC's but not the phonics of them. That's what I wanted. All the cd's seem more entertainment based than educational now.

My daughter learned all her letters and sounds at 19 months watching Letter Factory once a day for 3 weeks so I was interested in getting her a number video. I rented Numbers Ahoy to see what I thought since it had mixed reviews. I wasn't impressed as it's mostly about plot and little about counting or numbers but Numberland is much more focused on numbers and counting. We've had it less than a week and she's already starting to count things and she's only 20 months old! It's basic only focusing on numbers (1-10), counting, and a little skip counting but simple and focused is what works at a young age. Might not be as helpful for a 3 or 4 year old who can already count. As a bonus there's a vowel song from one of the other Leapfrog videos at the end as an advertisement and my daughter loves the song!

They have watched it a bunch of times now, totally glued. They sing along with it now too. It does a great review of counting to 10, counting by 2's, and counting different objects.

My boys love Leapfrog products and the few letter DVDs we have seen from Leapfrog, so I figured this DVD would be a hit as well. "Numberland" is a DVD that features the fun characters from Leapfrog products, but also numbers 1-10. It is a perfect first counting DVD for kids to learn from and it fits nicely with the other Leapfrog products. Throughout the DVD the numbers 1-10 are repeated and re-arranged over and over, but not in a boring way. The DVD makes kids think too because it puts the numbers in different orders, has them answer which number is missing and so forth. The animation is bright, colorful and kid-friendly. While this DVD is only 35 minutes, my boys don't mind watching it over and over again! The DVD states its for 2-6 year olds, and my boys are 3 and 5 and love it.

The Must Have Children's DVD!
There is a reason why the majority of Leapfrog reviews are five stars - LeapFrog: Letter Factory is the perfect mix of educational content and entertainment. I am convinced that it is one of the best children's DVDs to ever hit the market.

I have two beautiful boys: the oldest is nearly five and the youngest is 18 months. My oldest was diagnosed with PDD-NOS. While he does well in other subjects, he had shown some delays with speech and used to get frustrated and agitated when I tried to sit him down to read.

Six months ago, my best friend suggested I play some educational DVDs for him. She bought me a copy of Letter Factory to play for the oldest. "Blown away" best describes how I felt when I saw him fall in love with the DVD. I literally cried I was so happy. Now all he wants to do is watch it. The most amazing part is that not only has his speech has significantly improved, but he has...
Good Concept But Some Serious Errors...
The creators of this program have come up with an excellent concept; animating letters that make sounds representing each letter in the Alphabet. I have a degree in Psychology and studied several modules on how children learn to read. I also have 2 preteen children who I taught to read and one 4 year old daughter who I bought this learning video for. The four year old learnt all the sounds pretty quickly. However, there are a few letters pronounced incorrectly; L is pronounced ULL, R is pronounced ER and a few others are not clear.

But by far the BIGGEST problem with this video is that all the letters are only taught in UPPER CASE letters. So your lovely child may learn all her sounds but most books for children are written in lower case letters, with CAPS only at the beginning of sentences and names. Some parents may not see this as a problem because we take for granted that our experienced minds can easily switch between reading lower and upper case letters, but...
No More Arguing Over Which Movie To Watch!
I have never felt strong enough to actually take the time to write a review. I am a certified k-6 teacher who has told everyone I know about this amazing movie and now I am telling you...This was the first (out of 4) Leap Frog Movie that my children watched. My 3 1/2 year old and 2 years 2 month old boys are allowed to watch 1 movie a day. Each Day they agreed, in excitement, to watched this movie. Under a week my 3 1/2 year old knew his letter sounds. He could sing the letter sound song almost as fast as he could sing the alphabet. After a week, he amazed us when he sat down on the ground and wrote out the entire alphabet like a 4th grader. Had NO idea he could write like this! Shortly thereafter, the 2 year old knew all his letter sounds and letter recognition.

Another Superb DVD!
My son was diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified when he was 3. PDD-NOS is on the Autism spectrum, and children with this diagnosis often have developmental delays.

My son had a speech delay and other developmental delays. His speech is great now...no one can detect that he has this diagnosis. However, the delays have, understandably, affected his learning in some areas.

While his spatial skills have been way above average--as has his grasp of science (such as planets and their attributes)--he has resisted reading. He gets tired and frustrated.

Another great Leap Frog DVD!!!

My two year old had already mastered her letters and phonics thanks to the Letter Factory DVD and this just helped her put it all together. By age 2 1/2 she was reading, and now at almost 3 she reads books at the library around a 2nd to 3rd grade level! People are amazed! (actually, most don't even believe me until they see her do it!) I think this DVD is great and, although a bit oversimplified in some areas, is a great start to your childs education.

If We Could Start Again This Would Be Our First Step
As a family who owns quite a few educational DVDs I can attest to the fact that what LeapFrog is doing with their learning movies is both innovative and effective. Rather than focusing on repetitive drills, or straightforward simplistic presentation of facts accompanied by musical accompaniment, each of the DVDs included in the LeapFrog: Learning DVD Set integrates simple phonics and math principles into an engaging, and entertaining storyline. As a result, our children ask for the LeapFrog DVDs more often than they do any other educational offering we have available on disc.

The LeapFrog: Learning DVD Set incorporates three of LeapFrog's best titles for preschoolers and provides a comprehensive introduction to the basic preschool/kindergarten skills of letter recognition (short consonant and vowel sounds), basic blending, counting, and animal group recognition.

my child does not hold much interest in this. I was looking for something that would engage my child intellectually. Perhaps it will happen at a later date. I will continue trying, but not ecstatci about this purchase

time for improvement

By far the best DVD in this pack is the "Letter Factory" but the silver lining is the flash cards that come with the pack as I will use them when I show my son the corresponding lowercase letters. Like other reviewers I am a little disappointed that the content in this 2009 version is the same as the 2003 version. Given the age of this DVD I'm hoping Leapfrog will release an all new "Phonics factory" cartoon correcting some of the earlier mistakes, namely:-

1) Letters in lower case please
2) Include the phonemes that make up the 42 speech sounds in the English language: th, sh, ng, ai, oa, ee, oi, ou, ie etc.

Since rating this DVD, a month later after watching twice a week, my 27 month old son has learned all the alphabet both lower and upper case. My son is no genius but wired to learn and along with motherly keenness the DVD has really helped. Hence to mention my 3 star rating probably is a bit shy of the mark!
