Fine Family entertainment about a monkey kids can relate to
As a child, what I loved best about Curious George was his absolute inability to resist temptation, especially if fun was involved. His curiousity got him into all sorts of trouble and I got a vicarious thrill out of watching him get out of trouble and have everything turn out all right, but not without a lot of action and suspense and humor first.

What kid can't relate to the constant struggle between following the rules and testing the boundaries.?

Luckily, this movie stays true to the spirit of the classic books and it features a stellar cast, including Drew Barrymare and Will Ferrell. They do fine in their roles.

DO keep in mind that this movie is NOT designed to entertain adults (as Shrek did) There aren't the clever "in" jokes and the animation is a bit strange at times. Also, there are updates such as cell phones (not around when Curious George was created).

But the spirit of the series remains intact. At the theatre where I...
Sweet and Splendid
Curious George is a delightful book and a delightful movie. That the two don't match up very well is a testament to changing times I think, and not because the creators of the movie didn't care about preserving the original. But before I get into that I will review the movie as it stands on its own.

The "man with the yellow hat" (nicely voiced by Will Farrel) is a museum docent who cares passionately about his work and wants to communicate his love of history and the natural world to a disinterested city. It seems that the museum is failing financially, and destined to soon become a parking lot unless he and the owner can come up with a grand new attraction to bring in the money. So the man with the yellow hat buys the latest in adventure clothing and sets out to Africa on a mission to find a gigantic idol for their exhibit. He finds George instead (a very good little monkey, but extremely curious). George stows away on the ship headed back to America, and there he...
NIce, sweet, appropriate for younger kids
I thought the movie was a breath of fresh air in an era of overhyped computer-animated "cartoons" full of in-jokes and sarcasm. This was a real cartoon- gently animated, slowly paced, and written for kids. No snarky sarcasm, no annoying talking animals, no ridiculous violence, just a sweet tale told so that it could be enjoyed by all ages. There is nothing to scare a very young child, and children will not come away with rude comments that they learned from it. It is what movies for kids should have always been.

The plot is slightly pointless, but the plot really isn't the point anyway. The real point is how cute George is, and how nice it is to watch him being curious. The songs are sweet and not too loud or jarring. All of mine, from ages 2 up to 7, liked the movie, and it kept their attention without making them anxious. I wish I could give it six stars.

Loaded special DVD deserves more than 5 stars
I strongly recommend! Originally released in 1960, the film returned to theatres 4 times in later years. This is absolutely one of the most fun family films the Walt Disney Studios ever made. There is truly something for everyone... comedy, action, adventure, drama, romance, and suspense. Even at 126 minutes in length, it does not feel too long. Starting in the aftermath of a shipwreck, the Swiss family rebuilds their life on an uncharted tropical island. They use the wealth of salvage in livestock, tools, guns, furniture, wood, and more to build a safe home in the trees, complete with running water and other conveniences. The mother and father begin an idealic exhistance with their 3 boys aged 9, 16, and 18. But one day the older boys decide to take a canoe and survey the rest of the island. They stumble across pirates that are attacking the crew of a ship, and rescue the captain's daughter, bringing the wrath of the pirates on them since they are discovered.

Vault Disney DVD packed with extras for a low price
What a fantastic DVD this is. The Vault Disney series is wonderful, and I hope they give more films the same treatment soon. Not only is the film beautifully restored (in its original 2:35:1 theatrical aspect ratio, and with 5.1 THX surround sound), but the DVD itself is packed with delightful extras.
There's a documentary about making "Swiss Family Robinson" that is nearly 50 minutes long and contains interviews with Sir John Mills, James MacArthur, Tommy Kirk, and Kevin Corcoran. There's a commentary track with the latter three contributing comments about the film. There's an additional interview with MacArthur about his film work, the original theatrical trailer and television spots, radio spots, the entire story album that came out with the film, a Donald Duck cartoon, and more! If you like "Swiss Family Robinson," get this DVD -- even if you already have the VHS tape. It's worth it just to finally have a widescreen version of this family-friendly...
Classic Disney adventure -- Superlative DVD release
The folks at Walt Disney Home Video have put together four excellent new "Vault Disney" releases that truly showcase DVD technology at its best. "Swiss Family Robinson," one of Walt Disney's best-loved live-action adventures, benefits immensely from DVD technology, especially the wide-screen presentation and THX restored picture and sound quality. The widescreen alone would have satisfied most fans, so the plethora of extras on the supplemental disc are truly special. I have never seen a DVD with so many extras presented in such a creative and easily accessible way. Thank you to everyone at Walt Disney Home Video for this wonderful DVD. Hopefully, more titles will follow in this series (like Third Man on the Mountain, Darby O'Gill and the Little People, The Moonspinners, and Summer Magic) and ALL Disney DVD's will be released in their original theatrical ratios

Review :
Incredibly Incredible, Awesomely Awesome, Perfectly Perfect
Did you ever read comic books as a kid? Did you ever wish you had super powers? If you answered yes drop everything and go see this movie now. I have been increasingly blown away by the quality filmmaking Pixar has brought to cinemas over the past decade, but The Incredibles marks the first time I've been overwhelmed. Everything you've ever loved about superheroes is addressed in this film, from secret identities to the danger of wearing a cape. Add to the mix an amazingly complex family drama and you have the absolute best film of the year.

Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), once the super hero of the year is now relegated to a cubicle in an insurance company, still trying to save the day (quietly) one claim at a time. His wife, Helen, a.k.a Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) has also turned in her spandex, using her special powers to juggle the task of raising three kids instead of wrangling villains. Their son, Dash, wants nothing more than to use his super speed to propel...
Just a whole boatload of fun!
As a parent of two kids I have had to sit through some awful films; "Home on the Range" anyone? So I was excited to see previews for "The Incredibles", it looked like the perfect family movie, something I could enjoy and the kids could as well. "The Incredibles" lives up to the hype. Both of my kids couldn't stop talking about it and want to go again...even (gasp!) choosing to see this again over Spongebob when it comes out! The story is a lot of fun, and it's funny, how now, as a 30+ year old cubicle dweller, I can relate to Mr. Incredible and his longing for past glories. Pixar's animation is, as always, a real treat. It's amazing how Pixar's characters just come to life, and express more emotional range than a gaggle full of Keanu Reeves. And though "The Incredibles" is rated PG, there is nothing in the film that should keep you from taking your kids. This really is a great family film, and one that adults will be able to enjoy as much as the kids.

The Incredibles Restored My Faith in Animated Films
The genre of family-oriented computer animated feature film, invented and pioneered by Pixar Animation Studios, has seen a great decline in the past couple of years. Now, every other movie studio churns out another one in hopes of being the next Toy Story or Finding Nemo. In this reviewer's opinion, the formula has gotten incredibly stale. It's the same thing over and over again - Lots of humor and silliness for the kids, with some clever pop-culture references for adults, lots of talking inanimate objects voiced by recognizable and popular celebrities, a song by a bankable pop star. Wrap it all up in a bright, shiny package and advertise it on Nickelodeon and network TV and you've got a recipe for success. This formula has now been repeated ad nauseam by the movie studios yet parents, in lieu of more intelligent and creative children's entertainment, snatch it up. Just look at the crop of upcoming CG family movies slated for 2005. There are at least four, maybe five...
