Spectacular collection with many essentials
You wouldn't buy or download a CD without knowing what was on it, would you? So why would you buy this DVD collection without knowing its contents?
So first off, its contents. Why Amazon doesn't list this info is beyond me. This is a collection of 50 vintage Warner Brothers cartoons, many of which are classics.

Fans of Marvin the Martian or Taz? This set has got you covered!
The main draw for me to purchase this set was that it included the complete collection of Marvin the Martian and Taz cartoons, as I already have the 6 Golden Collections and all the Superstars discs. Well after getting it and watching some of the cartoons my mind was blown as to how well the cartoons look on a 1080p set. The colors pop as if they were produced just yesterday. Although in some of the cartoons scratches and dust are more noticeable (one has to remember that these cartoons were made around 60-70 years ago), but it does not detract from the overall experience.

Also included in the collector's set is a certificate of authenticity,a framed lithograph titled "The Looney Tunes March," a tin sign that features Bugs and Daffy, and of all things a Bugs Bunny shot glass. According to the box, only 36,000 of these sets were produced, so for die-hard Looney Tunes collectors this might be right up your alley!

This review may seem contradictory, this is a five-star set of cartoons presented in a five-star Blu-ray release, and I have to rate this set on those merits. But there are some things not five-star for those of us who have been collecting the Golden Collections on DVD.

O.K, , you are probably saying "These Looney Tunes Blu-ray titles seem familiar", that is because just about all of them have been released on the DVD Golden, Oscar, & Superstars Collections. Why? Because when they were restored for those Collections they were restored in Hi-Definition 1080p, so Warner had an easy Blu-ray release here with out spending much money for new film transfers.

This means that unlike the "Wow" effect we got when we first saw the Golden Collection DVDs after watching washed out Laserdiscs & VHS tapes, this time we will see the same film transfers with improved restoration in 1080p resolution. I have seen the Blu-ray...

Excellent Material Throughout, But Where's the Rest?
The six volumes of WB cartoons in these set contain a total of 24 discs. After buying each volume, one at a time, I thought that I finally had a comprehensive collection of all the best WB cartoons ever made. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Sorry to be a "glass half empty" guy, but a large number of memorable Looney Tunes classics were somehow left out!

There is easily enough good material to fill another 4-disc volume! I wish Warner Brothers went up to seven volumes instead of stopping at six. Seven volumes (of about 60 cartoons each) would have been the ideal number in order to include all the best.

The cartoons on this set all have superb picture quality, especially considering how old some of them are. (Compare some of the cartoons in this set with the same WB cartoons in cheap public domain collections and you'll see what I mean!)

In recent years WB cartoons have often been tampered with for TV broadcasts, for both "political correctness" (chopping...

Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 1-6 collects all 6 volumes of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection (24 DVDs in total) into one package, at a very low price. I bought all 6 volumes separately years ago, and have been enjoying them immensely.

What you get here is a huge amount of cartoons with Bugs, Daffy, Porky, and Elmer, as well as a decent amount of Tweety and Sylvester, Road Runner, Speedy Gonzales, and Yosemite Sam. Foghorn Leghorn and Pepe Le Pew also appear, although they are underrepresented in this set.

There are also cartoons featuring more obscure characters such as Marvin the Martian, Tasmanian Devil, Hubie and Berty, Marc Antony and Pussyfoot, Chuck Jones' Three Bears, Witch Hazel, Michigan J. Frog, Owl Jolson, Buddy, Bosko, and many others, as well as some characters who were never named. Some of the cartoons here are old black and white cartoons from the early 1930s which I had never seen before.

I love the Looney Toons but have been apprehensive up to this point at the prospect of hunting down individual volumes of the golden collection. Thankfully my patience has been rewarded by this beautiful box set. It's incredible to have 350+ films together in one package. The box art is fun and the presentation of each volume is pleasing. See my pics and you'll see that they didn't skimp on the individual cases to each volume. They could have crammed the discs into smaller cases but they didn't. At $90 this is an incredible value, as each individual volume retailed for $50. The special features are very thoughtful and well researched and truly delve into the back story of the people who made this series as timeless and beloved as it is today. This is an absolute must for those who, like me, have waited for the compilation. If you have collected the individual volumes in the past there isn't anything new for you, however. The Warner shorts never commanded the budgets and prestige of the Disney and MGM films, and won fewer Oscars than they deserved. But decades after the best ones were created, they remain the quintessential Hollywood cartoons: brash, fast-paced, aggressively funny and uniquely American. Virtually everyone in the U.S. under the age of 60 grew up on these films, in theaters and on TV. The 56 cartoons in the set (out of a studio output of over 1,000) were transferred from good prints--which means the viewer can see dust, scratches, and occasional mistakes by the cel painters. The films are all presented uncut, in defiance of the killjoys who have insisted on censoring alleged "violence" in the versions shown on television. Warner Bros. is obviously testing consumer response with this set. Golden Rules for Looney Tunes
Animation legend Chuck Jones had a mythic set of ground rules for his ingenious Road Runner series: the setting was always the desert, the characters never spoke, the Road Runner never left the road, the Coyote never caught the Road Runner, etc. A similar set of rules seems at work in THE GOLDEN COLLECTION introductory DVD presentation of Warner Bros. animated shorts. The original LOONEY TUNES gang is back, and boy do they look terrific. Warner Home Video has compiled a terrific selection of 56 animated gems starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky, Pig, Elmer Fudd, along with dozens of other characters, and added hours and hours of bonus features and documentaries. This is sure to become a perennial in anyone's serious DVD collection.
Best of all, the cartoons have been GORGEOUSLY restored. Restoration means bringing something back to its ORIGINAL form, and that's what Warner Bros. has lovingly done here. The glorious Technicolor imagery is mind-boggling, the animation art is sharp and clear. So sharp and clear that you see can even see the dust that was on the original cels these cartoons were painted on.
THAT'S restoration.
Thank heavens Warner didn't go the route that Disney did with SLEEPING BEAUTY and monkey around with these...
Directorial Information Organized by Disc
For those of you who have a favorite Director you may have found categorization by character quite frustrating. Personally I don't care for a whole disc of Bugs, or a whole disc of Daffy; I want a whole disc of Chuck or a whole disc of Friz. Even the fine episode lists above, which really do hold all the information you need, are not organized according to how the episodes appear on the discs in the collection. To remedy this problem I have the following list to provide you with the episodes, organized in the order they appear on the discs, and who directed them.
