DON'T BOTHER: SAD TO SAY IT'S A DISAPPOINTMENT BIG AS TEXAS...except for HARTNETT and FRANCO
Full of great, wide-open Texas ranch landscapes, but sadly, just as packed with terrible writing and some of the worst acting imaginable...exceptions were solid portrayals of brothers surviving a fractured horse ranching dynasty, Josh Hartnett and James Franco. While this movie may be a historic film curio for other reasons down the road, don't spend your money or your time watching this one. To see Duvall at his edgy elder best in a crowning achievement of starring and directing, watch his marvelous APOSTLE instead.

But here, in WILD HORSES, where apparently locals and family members were used, instead of seeming naturalistic, both the integrity of the story --its glue-- and overall believability of actors and non-actors woodenly reciting bad lines, it all morphs into, well, a trainwreck. Everything important beyond the magnificent landscapes falls prey to the bad acting and writing. Apart from performances by Franco and Hartnett, this movie played worse than many a...
Shoot, Aim, Miss Badly
I hope Mr. Duval does not read this review as I really like and admire him and his work but this movie is not very good. The acting is good, but the story is hard to follow, the writing is not very good, and its so slow. About 20 minutes too long, more objective editing should have been done. On the bright side, it has beautiful scenery, cinematography is really good, and hopefully maybe it will provide Lucia Duval better roles and projects in the future as she did a fairly good job and is a looker for sure.

NO GIDDY-UP
Big Duvall fans here, looking forward to Wild Horses.....so we saddled up....! Slow start lead to several disconnected sub-plots...meaningless babble....for a minute it felt like a reality show on some ranch...This was not an enjoyable film by any measure...the pace failed to hold our attention...as did Duvall. WHOA...did I really say that! Yup!

WILD TALES is a fresco of rage, fury, deception, and revenge. Made up of six stories, it is an entertaining and jaw-dropping film about people crossing the line into madness when faced with perceived injustice. A lover's betrayal, a return to the repressed past, and the violence woven into everyday encounters drive the characters to lose control and cross the line that divides civilization and barbarism.

SEE THIS MOVIE!
"Relatos Salvajes" is an audacious collection of short stories from Argentina (English captions) which garnered a ten-minute standing ovation at Cannes and was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars. Written and directed by Damián Szifron (lots of Argentinian television), this starts with some memorable wildlife photography, shot with elegance and described by a playful voiceover. This sets the tone.

Rather than concentrate on the wonderful actors, I will instead give you hints about the unpredictable (and humorous) short stories; some are shorter (and darker) than others, but none leave you wondering about what happened. This is a refreshing change from many of the short stories we have seen or read. What a treat!

* Let's start with “Pasternak,” or what I call "Free Ticket." We meet an assortment of passengers on a commercial airline who are strangers to one another. A sense of discovery is personal to start with and...
Outrageously funny!
Several unrelated stories each one immensely entertaining. If you appreciate dark humor, you will love these stories. Placing my order today to own this marvelous DVD. Hopefully it will be released b4 Father's Day as I'm getting it for my husband.

Darkly comic masterpiece.
"Wild Tales" earned a well-deserved Oscar Nomination for Best Foreign Film in 2014, and it would have been entirely deserving of top honors had it actually won.

Argentinian director Damien Szifron's film is a mix between the sensibilities of Pedro Almodovar, who served as a Producer on the film, and Quentin Tarantino's freewheeling style, which may have served as an inspiration. The movie contains six short films set in Argentina, primarily in and around Buenos Aires, that are united by (mostly) darkly comic revenge plots. Each of the films has an element of poetic justice, so even though the treatments can be pretty violent, there is an almost moral dimension to the action.

These films are also a master class in the subtle uses of sound and camera placement in the service of telling stories. There's a shift between the subjective viewpoint of some characters and the more "God's eye" view that happens multiple times within each of these stories...
