The air might have gone out of this series after forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI special agent Seeley Booth finally became a couple with a child last season. Happily for fans, the show has found new ways to keep things interesting and fun.

The end of the seventh season of "Bones" left Bones on the run with her infant child after being framed for murder by the highly skilled serial killer Christopher Pelant. The opening of the eighth season finds Booth and her colleagues at the Jeffersonian Institute trying to clear her name. Fortunately for the series, they succeed, although Pelant eludes justice to pose a future threat.

This eighth season continues to feature crime-of-the-week murders for Bones, Booth, and the Jeffersonian lab rats to solve through clever forensics and Booth's old-fashioned police work. Still going strong
Chances are by now you know how you feel about Bones. If you have liked the show up to this point you will likely still enjoy this season. If you don't like it, this season will not do anything to change your mind because it really follows the same formula as it has the past few years.

I think the stories are still compelling and interesting enough to keep the show fun to watch. It does a good job of blending the case of the week stories with the ongoing story arcs. The main antagonist this season continues to be Pelant. The storyline from the last season which resulted in the end of the season cliffhanger is resolved quickly in Season 8. Pelant however keeps coming back throughout the season to make the lives of the team hell.

The show has kept the rotating interns that stemmed from the one story line from the show whose outcome I did not like, and that was having Zach written off the show. The show does a good job of actually giving them more to do that just...
The dreaded never-ending storyline
One of the things I liked most about "Bones" was that each season was pretty much self-contained. There were story arcs that spanned multiple episodes through the season (such as the Gravedigger and Gormogon storylines) and ongoing plot developments (such as the truth about Brennan's parents and Hodgins' and Angela's developing relationship) but by and large each season wrapped up the loose ends by or in the season finale. Unfortunately, that pattern has been broken with the introduction of Christopher Pelant. While I realize that the forensics team members require a challenge equal to their considerable abilities to keep the show interesting, some of Pelant's technological feats are, quite frankly, ridiculous and highly contrived. That, however, isn't the true problem with the concept. Pelant (much as Red John in "The Mentalist") is a loose end whom the writers have allowed to remain one step ahead of the protagonists and can continue to do so indefinitely. creaky Bones but still with flashes of awesome
So, hey, where did the time go? I blinked, and Bones is heading into its tenth season. Season 9 was another eventful sauce, but that sauce is covering up some stale meat. The showrunner messed around and somehow ended up with 24 episodes. I can't gloss over that there's a discernable creak now in the Bones machine. It's long in the tooth, son. And yet enough bits of awesome went down that it's got me anticipating like mad this upcoming September.

The show's humble brag has always rested on this one thing: that the mystery of the week serves to accent what's going on in the characters' lives. The corpses are always introduced in gristly, grotesque fashion, and there's morbid fun in that, and I've always appreciated the dark comic undertones. But let's not front: we couldn't care less about the weekly parade of suspects or whodunit. We're drawn to how OUR characters react and interact with the murder case as a backdrop.

I gave this season and all other seasons before it a 5star rating because this is hands down my favorite show. I love how they go into details with both main couples on the show, everyone's favorite couple is normally Booth and Bones but mine is Hodgins and Angela, they are so great together and they make you wish that you had that kind of marriage. I love how they insert Pelant in the show, he does a great drop all the way back to season 7 as the serial killer to catch. If they could pull out at least 2 more seasons out of their hats i would be incredibly happy. I love the forensics and even the drama the insert into the show. They have steered away from the reason in why they did this show, Kathy Reichs, but it has turned into quite an amazing show. I'm so glad that they finally get married, kind of sad for Hodgins and Angela as they lose all of their money to save a bunch of kids from being attacked by a drone. Fox's long-running crime drama "Bones" gets a tenth season, with its polished routine of crimes of the week, solved by FBI Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and his partner, pathologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel), and the criminology team at the Jeffersonian Institute. First, however, the team will have to find a way to get Booth out of jail and cleared, after he was framed at the end of the ninth season. Once out of jail, Booth will face a tough period of readjustment, trying to get back his crime-fighting mojo back while learning to live with Bones and daughter Christine all over again.

The new season brings some changes. The team will lose a key player at a dramatic moment early in the season, and have to work in a replacement after an emotional farewell. And in the 100th episode ("The Parts in the Sum of the Whole"), which Boreanaz directed, the series goes back in time six years to when Booth first met Bones. And it's clear that the two were attracted to each other then, sharing an admiration of solving a case efficiently and correctly. Who knew that decayed bodies could be such a turn-on? There's a lot going on this season, and some of the episodes do fall short. The case revolving around witchcraft doesn't ring true and the quest to ID body parts found in a shark isn't up to par by Bones standards. But overall, the season is a winner. Whether the team is racing against time to deal with a serial killer, finding clues left by a compulsive hoarder, or simply celebrating another wedding, the viewer is left anticipating what comes next. The six-disc set includes all 22 episodes from the fifth season, which originally aired during the 2009-2010 television season. "The Bodies of the Bones" featurette is as fascinating as it is gross and "The Nunchuck Way" special feature is pretty cool. The one thing that has always set "Bones" apart from the countless other procedurals on the airwaves right now is the focus on the characters solving the crimes rather than the crimes themselves, and the strength of this approach shines through brilliantly in every episode of this season.

Unrequited Love Episode After Episode Eroding Other Aspects
Five years on, the episode after episode inability of Booth and Bones to come together as other than crime partners is wearing thin. The first four seasons were highly comedic and capitalized on Bones's and Booth's relationship as a crime fighting duo who were also reluctantly attracted to one another. However, this season, they are a mess over one another. He is clearly and unequivocally in love. She is also in love but is scared to death of ever acting on it. This conflict occurs in every single episode.

I frankly think to break this impasse it would be better to marry them off and then have the comedic friction come from their problems as a Nick and Nora Charles type couple ("The Thin Man"). The unrequited love is sapping the considerable energy and magic of this show plus Bones and Booth as a comedic detective team. A critical but ignored strength of this amazing show
I absolutely love this show. It might be the most amazingly well-crafted t.v. show ever, along many dimensions. I agree with all of the positive comments of other reviewers. I don't have one negative comment to make, even though, I, too, miss Zach and thought he was a terrific character, well-acted. I even think the Daisy character provides an important role in the balance of the cast, as long as she is not there all the time. No show is complete without little jabs from a distracting annoyance. (Remember Eddie Haskell on "Leave it to Beaver?")
On the other hand, EVERY review that I read left out what, to me, may be the most important dimension of the show. The unspeakable gore and horrifying plots would be meaningless and perhaps sadistic if regarded as entertainment alone. Apart from the newest wrinkle, the format hasn't changed. The grisly murder mysteries and their procedural backbones are still pleasantly highlighted by the same lightheartedness between the crime-fighting duo and their motley supporting pals in the laboratory and administrative offices. That's kind of where the less-than-stellar stories hit a dip, simply because of the sheer repetitiveness of the narratives and accompanying banter. But Bones is certainly a long way from being dead. The episode "The Crack in the Code" was the last one produced before Deschanel's maternity leave, and it introduces a new supervillain after a horrifically encrypted code is found in the remains of a body left dramatically draped over an exhibit at a museum in Washington, DC. Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) is a psychotic genius and convicted computer hacker who seems to have a perfect alibi while he also seems to be the obvious perpetrator. Pelant is a fascinating character and perfect foil for the Bones crew to grapple with. He reappears in the sort-of cliffhanger final episode, "The Past in the Present," as a brilliant fiend who could be the downfall of the entire Bones team, especially Booth. (He returns in the season-eight premiere and will almost certainly be back as the latest and greatest criminal mind Bones and Booth have ever faced down.) Other standout episodes are "The Prisoner in the Pipe," about a criminal who appears to have escaped prison after his murder, and "The Twist in the Twister," about the suspicious demise of a storm chaser. The most fun comes in "The Suit on the Set," which takes place in Hollywood, where a movie crew is filming an adaptation of Bones's new book about her work at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Forensic Sciences Department, an interesting self-referential concept. When Booth and Bones are visiting the set, the fake corpse turns out to be real, so they are enlisted to solve the mystery for real. Fans will all have their favorite supporting character among the geeky, goofy, or lovable group back at the institute, notably forensic artist Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin), entomologist and conspiracy theorist Dr. Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), or the boss and chief pathologist Dr. Camille Saroyan (Tamara Taylor). The thing that has differentiated Bones from shows like Criminal Minds, NCIS, or the CSI franchise is the heart it brings to the ensemble and their many-faceted personal lives, which often intersect. Booth & Bones Are Expecting! Plot Twist Reinvigorates the Show
This refreshingly *different* season of Bones is gearing up to be one of the series' best! It is just the reinvigoration the show needed!

Life has changed at the Jeffersonian since we last saw our favorite crime-solvers. After last season's pregnancy bombshell of an ender, we pick up with forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan entering her third trimester, hormones all over the place as she bumbles in that adorable way that only Brennan can into the frightening role of motherhood. As always, her partner FBI Agent Seeley Booth is there by her side, more loving and more happy than we've ever seen him. Having them together romantically (FINALLY), is a joy I'm still unable to get over :) It feels... natural. It almost makes you wonder, why wasn't it always this way? (Also makes you forget the angsty love triangle of season 6 ever even happened! Hannah who? ;p)

With the start of the season, we saw Brennan and Booth both adjusting to their new life together, awaiting the birth of their child. We also saw them let go of the last vestiges of their single lives and find a ramshackle home (which, with Wendall's FAST off screen help!) to move into. With the birth of their daughter, Christine, came a new sense of family.

For many episodes, the family angle was played up. Some might even say it was played up *too much*, but with tonight's finale, I think there was a point to it, so I can understand the reasoning, even if I felt the season was drama light.
