Oscarr Winner Sandra Bullock* and Oscarr Nominee Melissa McCarthy** team up in this outrageously funny comedy from the director of Bridesmaids, Paul Feig. But when they join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected...buddies.

Review :
Absolutely hilarious, from beginning to end.
One thing I hate about female-driven comedy is the oft-sub par material that women have to work with. The punchline is always something tasteless or stale - like age, body image or gender roles. For some reason, the misogynistic question of whether or not women are funny is still a topic of hot debate. Kristen Wiig's "Bridesmaids" should have been enough to shut these guys up once and for all, but alas, it was not.

"The Heat" reunites "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, who, after 15 years in show business, was finally recognized as the star that she is, after the release of that film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Since then, McCarthy has been one busy gal - on her time off from filming her sitcom "Mike & Molly," this married mother of two has been filming movies left and right. She's a box office sure thing - the critically panned "Identity Thief" scored $135 million at the box office, and "The Heat", originally planned for an April...
Review of the Bluray/DVD version - Bonus features galore!
If you have not noticed by now, Amazon groups ALL reviews of ALL formats of a movie release together so I always recommend that customers note the format being reviewed and - better yet - sort the reviews by " most recent". That said, this a a review of the Bluray combo pack.

There are already 70 reviews of the "film" posted as I write this and nearly all concentrate on the film itself, so I will not spend a lot of space on that (you can read the others) except to say that I found it a fun film to watch, especially watching Sandra Bullock out of her element. I'll admit that I have not seen "The Bridesmaids" so this was my first opportunity to see Melissa McCarthy (and her mouth) in action. I guess I find the profanity a bit forced (and there for "shock value") but there were some funny lines.

Okay, now to give you info on the BD/DVD. First off, the package includes BOTH the Theatrical (R rated) version and the "Unrated" version. The R runs an hour and 57 minutes...
Funniest comedy in years! Absolutely a Must See
Sandra Bullock plays a brilliant, but arrogant FBI agent, and Melissa McCarthy plays a very rough, loner detective. They're thrown together on a case and have to adjust to working with each other.

This was the funniest movie I've seen in many years. There were so many big laughs that I'll have to see this again just to hear the lines I missed, because the audience was laughing so hard.

Some movie trailers look funny, and when you see the movie you're disappointed because you've seen all the funny parts already. Not this one. The actual movie was far more fun than the trailer showed.

Here's what I liked about this movie:

- Melissa McCarthy was utterly hilarious, as was Sandra Bullock. They're fantastic comedic actresses. The rest of the cast was also fantastic.

- The two actresses had major buddy cop chemistry. They played off each other perfectly.

- The script was really well done. There were so many surprises, twists...

Review :
Theatrical version available on DVD overseas
Like many people here, I detest the recut DVD version of this film. Seeing the original theatrical version in 1992 was one of the key moviegoing experiences of my life. I don't buy DVDs to see a new spin on a movie I liked, I buy them to be able to rewatch that same movie. Alternate cuts are fine as a bonus feature, but once I saw how Michael Mann had butchered his mainstream masterpiece, giving no option of seeing how it was originally, I sold the DVD and bought a copy of the mercifully untouched widescreen VHS.

Recently, however, I discovered that while this American director's cut DVD is from Fox, Warner Bros holds the rights to Mohicans outside the USA, and they have released the original theatrical version on DVD around the globe. I have a regionless DVD player, which is easy to get in many stores for under fifty dollars, so I bought a copy of the British DVD at amazon.co.uk

Wow. It's as I remembered it, with the Clannad song, without the extra monologue...
Heavy cutting guts the drama and love story of the original.
I'm a fan of this movie, and my low rating has to do with displeasure at the director's cut version. The original version had its problems, but Mann went overboard in trying to correct those problems and messed up the movie.
I've read all of the other reviews here, and people have already touched on many of the major changes in the DVD version. I won't rehash the previous comments. I wrote this review because I don't think anybody yet has mentioned some very important changes made to the director's cut. Taken as a whole, this director's cut is a significantly different movie from the original, much like how Blade Runner got changed completely. Since I don't have a copy of the original version, I can only make comparisons from memory, so bear with me if I make some mistakes.
As a previous review noted, the intent of the director's cut seems to have been to add more historical background and authenticity to the movie. This does give a greater richness to the...
Big Lie for the day -- this DVD is an "Expanded Edition"
This DVD is a huge disappointment. With every other movie I have ever bought that was labeled a "Director's Cut" or an "Expanded Edition", the movie had things added to it and not taken out. This version of the movie cuts out much of the familiar and favorite dialogue from the movie released in the theater. Did you like the part where, hiding in the forest, Hawkeye & Cora have their conversation about her people being a breed apart and not making any sense? When Cora gets offended by this, Hawkeye gives her such a look and says "I would make an exception in your case, Miss" and she sarcastically says "Thank you so much!" All this is ripped out of this version. When Major Hayward and Hawkeye have their confrontation in Col. Munro's office about whether the Colonial militia should be released from service to defend their families, gone is the part where Hawkeye looks at the Major and says "I think one day you and I are going to have a serious disagreement". When the party is escaping...

Brand: TCFHE

Description : This particular Idiocracy performs excellent, user friendly and modify. The cost of this is much lower when compared with other areas we investigates, rather than much more as compared to similar item

This specific item delivers exceeded out prospect, that one has become a amazing buy for personally, The concept appeared properly and also quickly Idiocracy

From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind.

Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. But when a government hibernation experiment goes awry, Bowers awakens in the year 2505 to find a society so dumbed-down by mass commercialism and mindless TV programming that he's become the smartest guy on the planet. Now it's up to an average Joe to get human evolution back on track!

Filled with razor-sharp sarcasm and outrageous sight gags, Idiocracy will make you laugh out loud whether you're an absolute genius or a complete idiot!Given that Office Space is a bona fide cult classic, it comes as some surprise that Mike Judge's follow-up wasn't more heavily promoted. Granted, this live-action comedy is a darker, more pointed proposition, but it's unfortunate that few theater patrons got the opportunity to, well, judge for themselves. In Idiocracy, the King of the Hill creator visualizes what would happen if Devo's proposition--that mankind is in the process of devolution--came to pass. The catalyst: the overeducated start having fewer children while the undereducated have more. Enter Joe (Luke Wilson), a military librarian with no family and even less ambition. The Pentagon chooses him for a top-secret hibernation project due to his extreme "average-ness." They select Rita (SNL's Maya Rudolph), a prostitute, for the same reason. When the experiment goes haywire, the two emerge 500 years later--rather than one. Now it's 2505 and they're the brightest people in the over-polluted land. Everyone else is, basically, Beavis and Butt-head. Yes, the satire couldn't be less subtle, but the premise gives Judge license to make as much fun of junk food pop culture as dystopian classics like 1984 and Planet of the Apes. Wilson wisely plays it straight, even if the actors who surround him sometimes succumb to excess. And the effects may be cheesy, but that just adds to the fun. Idiocracy features former footballer Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) as President Camacho and Dax Shepard (Punk'd) as Joe's futuristic friend Frito. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Hilarious Dystopian Satire Muted by Distributor
Idiocracy, meaning rule of the stupid, is a dystopian film from Director Mike Judge (Office Space) that cost about $30 million to make but only made about half a million dollars because the film's distributor wanted nothing to do with promoting the film. There were no advertisements, no trailers, and the film was eventually released on just 130 screens in a limited amount of American cities. The film is written by successful veterans, stars some solid talent, and the CGI effects and art direction were likely not inexpensive. Unlike most films that a distributor ignores, Idiocracy was well-received by critics and I will echo here that it is indeed a very good satire. The distributor was of course Fox and they were likely embarrassed to release a film that does what any good dystopian tale does, and that is strongly denounce the self-destructive culture we currently live in and continue to facilitate...
A scathing satire on our modern society
If you hated this movie you either didn't get it or were one of the people that the opening narration talks about. This film is a scathing satire about the culture that is breeding things like Paris Hilton, Jerry Springer, and Girls Gone Wild and taking a look at where the United States could be if that culture continues to grow unchecked. The Result is a movie that while not as funny as Office Space, offers a humorous although somewhat frightening look at our society and pop culture. I think this movie is one of those films that will eventually become a cult favorite and generate an even larger following that Office Space has. If you are troubled by your little niece's obsession with being like Paris Hilton or are dismayed by what passes for entertainment these days then you need to see this movie.

Brilliant Satire (brought to you by Carl's Jr.)
As a high school teacher, I saw this movie and was convinced that Mike Judge had secretly studied my students. He is DEAD ON about where the up-and-coming generation is headed, and it's so funny it hurts. This film is way ahead of its time in its cultural commentary, which is why it still hasn't received the promotion or praise that it rightly deserves. Then again, that's the problem with satire as a genre--the message is lost on the people who need to hear it most.
If you appreciate Office Space or King of the Hill, you'll love what Judge is up to here. It's refreshing to know that someone in Hollywood is ballsy enough to blast corporate America for its hand in creating a culture that is too stuid to recognize its own bleak future. It's also a little sad to realize that if you "get" this movie, you're already part of a dying breed.

A little over priced, but...
Update 12-24-2013:

I just got the claw package for my younger brother's gift, so now I can review both the Adamantium Collection and the X-Men and the Wolverine Collection. To be honest, I had every intention to keep the claw for myself, but I guess I am getting too old, and it didn't help that the claw is not as extra ordinary as I would like it to be. I think this package is not worth the list price. It would be a nice product if the list price was around $80, because the quality of the claw and the stand is too cheap for the hefty list price. If you forget about the price, it will be a nice package, and the new printed labels for all the discs are nicer than previous releases. The claw is a little smaller than what I thought it would be; precisely, it is 15" tall and 6.5" wide. The discs contents are the same as the...
Well, it's a collection all right.
I was excited to see an X-Men package at my local retailer and picked it up, knowing I would enjoy all 6 movies. When I brought it home and opened it, I learned how cheap they were to toss this thing together. The first 3 movies clearly have "Disc 1" printed on the label, letting you know (if you're knowledgeable in collecting movies/games/etc.) that they simply took the discs from unsold packages (probably ones with expired digital copy/Ultraviolet codes) and threw them in this nice looking box. The other three movies (Origins, First Class, The Wolverine) didn't have any marking they came from another package, save for the Wolverine discs don't even share the same print as the first three movies (though they have "Disc 1" printed on them, they're uniform.) First class almost had the same print, but is still different enough to bother a collector. It also bothers me to see that you're apparently buying a collection, with the intent of apparently HAVING a collection,...
X-Men and the Wolverine Collection is an amazing box set
X-Men and the Wolverine Collection is a great price for all six movies in a Blu-ray format. The box set collection comes with awesome cover art on each disk. With this combo pack you get the original first three x-men movies ( X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand). Also within this combo you get X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This combo pack would be a great holiday gift for someone you care about, or maybe for yourself as well. If you are not familiar with these films I have included a quick summary of each movie.

- X-Men is a 2000 Co-written and directed by Bryan Singer, the film stars Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Famke Janssen, Bruce Davison, James Marsden, Halle Berry, Rebecca Romijn, Ray Park and Tyler Mane. It depicts a world in which a small proportion of people are mutants, whose possession of superhuman powers makes them distrusted by normal humans. The film focuses on the mutants Wolverine and...

Wicked FUN!
What a ride! This was entertainment at it's best, a kind of James Bond meets Kill Bill meets Harry Potter. The premise is simple: Eggsy, the main younger character, and a talented yet troubled youth of sorts is invited to try out for the Kingsmen. The first part of the movie is primarily training, interaction with the inevitable entitled bullies, etc. Of course, there is a mentor, played by Colin Firth, who is absolutely amazing in this role - stiff upper lip and all, but who does let his emotional side come through occasionally in his interactions with young Eggsy as he learns and grows.

No spy movie is complete without a super villain intent on world domination, and Samuel L Jackson plays this to the hilt, along with being quite squeamish about blood and violence. His outfits alone are worth watching.

This entire movie feels like an homage to the spy movies of the past, with top notch acting, believable character interactions, and some incredible...
Are we going to stand around here ALL day, or are we going to fight?
Here's an idea for you -- James Bond in the style of "Kick Ass," with a side of Harry Potter. Awesome? Awful?

Yeah, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" -- based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons's comic book series -- could have been the biggest, most grotesque flop in years. Instead, it ends up being a quirky, clever spy thriller that uses all the cliches in fresh ways -- it has the updated villains and razor-edged violence of newer spy movies movies, combined with the style and Empire sensibilities of the older ones. Also, Colin Firth as a secret agent.

Smart but aimless, Gary "Eggsy" Unwin is like thousands of other working-class British youths -- he lives in a rotten little apartment with his neurotic mother and abusive stepfather, and has gotten in some scrapes with the law. The one unusual thing about him is that when his father died under classified circumstances, and a mysterious man named Harry Hart (Colin Firth) left him with a medal, a...
Love It, Love It, Love IT!
One of the best action comedies of the last few years. Great cast just all having a bit of fun. Once you don't take it too seriously, you will have a ball. Being a Brit now living in the US, it made me miss London, but it also made me proud that we Brits can still kick *ss, but do it with a lot of class, and are always gentlemanly, even to our foes. I was a big fan of Colin Firth before this movie, and am now even a bigger fan.

Word of warning: This is not for the squeamish or for prudes. There is a lot of gore, and some sexual references (hence the "R" rating), but if you are not easily offended then you will love it just as I did.

Review :
A Fuller, More Cohesive Film
The Rogue Cut for many will be the definitive version of Days of Future Past. It adds character, motivation, and cohesiveness to the story. Is any of it necessary? No, the Theatrical version (also included on this disc) tells the exact same story, just tighter. But this BluRay has more than enough substance to be worth the purchase.

In terms of the Rogue Cut itself, what we have is a film that - at 17 minutes longer - breathes just a little bit more. The direness of the future is expanded upon with additional dialogue, an emotional scene between Raven and Hank (who only had an occasional glance in the theatrical version) gives us more development into their characters, and a last-attempt rescue brings Rogue in to help focus Wolverine in the past when he most needs it. Bringing Rogue into the film was unnecessary, but the way the sequence is cut together - with Old Magneto breaking into the mansion to rescue Rogue while Young Magneto breaks into the pentagon - is beautifully...
A great movie made greater
The original release of this film was a fantastic one. It was my favorite release from all 5 of the X-Men films to date. If you were to count this edition as a separate, 6th film, it would easily take its place atop that list. I love the seamless integration of the added footage, and Rogue's scenes give us a much fairer and more appropriate send-off to the character. For a movie that was partly intended to be the final good-bye to the cast (and characters) of the original trilogy, the Rogue Cut gives us all what we deserved.

(Minor spoilers ahead) If you've read any of Singer's interviews about the deleted scenes, then you already know the general purpose she serves in the added scenes. When Wolverine hurts Kitty, the team rallies to go find Rogue, bring her back, then have her absorb Kitty's powers to take over on her behalf.

While this doesn't change the overall plot or progress from the theatrical release, it does give the viewer several "a ha!"...
A Cut above a simple Director's Cut re-release.
Rarely does a different "Cut" of a movie give you anything more than just added scenes, but the way the story was tied together so seamlessly with the Rogue storyline inserted as it was meant to be, it also gives you plenty of Easter Eggs regarding other characters and their future roles in upcoming X Men Apocalypse. I thoroughly enjoyed this and find it well worth every penny spent to buy it. I don't just consider it a Cut, but an entirely different movie in and of itself. Great addition to the True X Men fans and all who love this saga.

Review :
A film which every man of every faith can embrace!
It seems like the only way anyone hears about this movie, its either from fanatic word of mouth or from seeing it sitting in Blockbusters. Thats a shame, because this first outing by director Troy Duffy is an extremely cool film that deserves all the attention it can get.
Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus play two good ole Irish Catholic boys in Boston, who one day get sick of the corruption in the city and begin a bloody crusade to wipe it out. Willem DaFoe plays the FBI agent hot on their trail, who is torn between bringing the mysterious vigilantes to justice, or joining their crusade.
The film is, simply put, cool. Its one of the only movies that actually make going to church look cool. Don't be fooled by the description, however; this is not an action movie. Do not expect blazing gun battles with crazy angles and MTV like editing. This is a film about morality, doing what one thinks is right, and having codes of honour. It's about all those things, and how close...
A Sleeper Fan's Opinion
If you are a big fan of sleeper films, then this should be #1 on your movies to rent list. After you watch it, it will be #1 on your movies to buy list. This movie will really toy with you from the very beginning. As an action movie, you see the results of the action sequence before you see the actual scene. By doing this, the director keeps you on the edge of your seat, dying to know what happened and how. After the first sequence like this, you will be glued to your TV. Personally, I enjoyed this style of storytelling immensly because it was very fresh. This movie has an original plot, great character development, fantastic dialogue and several extremely humorous scenes. Oh, and great action too. For the DVD fan, there are great special features. The deleted scenes are some of the best I have ever seen, and I wish that they had been left in the theatrical release. I can only hope for a directors cut somewhere down the line. Willem Dafoe and Sean Patrick Flannery put forth a...
Awesome film, disappointing dvd.
I love the Boondock Saints. It's funny and action packed all at once. Naturally, when the special edition came out I jumped right on it. But, upon viewing it I realized the only thing extended in the "unrated" edition were the fight scenes. I figured they'd put in all the "deleted scenes" from the special features. I was very disappointed in that. I can't see a glaring difference between the rated/unrated editions. I'm just as happy with my first version, the only thing they seem to make better is the box the dvd comes in.

Description : Inspect trailers films This specific The Wolverine (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD with UltraViolet) does fantastic, simple to operate as well as modify. The price of this wa lower as compered to other locations My spouse and i researches, rather than much more than similar item

This specific subject delivers surpasses own anticipation, this place has chaned into a great upgrade on me personally, The theory appeared securely and also speedily The Wolverine (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD with UltraViolet)

Hugh Jackman returns as The Wolverine and faces his ultimate nemesis in an action packed life-or-death battle that takes him to modern day Japan. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his limits, Logan confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality; an epic fight that will leave him forever changed.

In 2013's summer of superheroes, The Wolverine breaks a lot of rules of the genre and comes out a winner for the most unexpected of reasons. Both the movie and the man (make that super-man) are driven by vengeance, anger, and the existential angst of the whole "with great power comes great blah, blah, blah" thing. But The Wolverine has a sense of higher responsibility and a quietude that distinguishes it from the likes of Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, and even the numerous X-Men movies that forged its legacy. With Hugh Jackman reprising the role (for the sixth time) that made him a movie star, The Wolverine is the least like any of its predecessors for the way it prefers subdued tension and real dramatic buildup of character rather than all-out frenzied action. There are plenty of elegantly realized set pieces that make visual sense and have direct bearing on the story (not necessarily things that are a priority in other mega-budget actioners), but the moments of talk and gentler sense of introspection that director James Mangold carefully oversees are more important and equally as satisfying. The events of The Wolverine take place in the aftermath of 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, with Wolverine/Logan's grief over the death of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) still raw. He's become a hermit somewhere in the frozen north, still seething with inward rage. The appearance of a lethal Japanese pixie named Yukio (Rila Fukushima) distracts him with a message from an old friend who wants to say goodbye. He's whisked to an idealized, manga-inspired Japan where billionaire industrialist Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi) is about to pass on. Logan saved him near the end of World War II (a truly haunting sequence), a debt Yashida wishes to repay by relieving Logan of the curse of his immortality and the healing power of his adamantine bones (and claws). Mangold has cited numerous samurai films as inspiration, and The Wolverine stands out as a classic eastern western for the thematic elements it incorporates from Japanese cinema and the iconic American genre. The other important characters in this cunningly entertaining morality play are Yashida's beloved daughter Mariko (Tao Okamoto), who battles ethereal dream encounters with Jean Grey for Logan's heart, and his evil son Shingen (Hiroyuki Sanada). There's also Yashida's creepy, statuesque doctor, who we later get to know as Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova), another mutant who may actually have the power to kill Wolverine. The story is loosely based on a popular Wolverine comic series from 1982 that sets the stage for all the mythical Japanese elements, including a final battle with a scary adamantine samurai warrior-bot. Another super-cool CGI action scene is set on top of a bullet train going top speed (believe it or not, Jackman's enormous, ripped, straining, hyper-vascularized pecs and neck were not computer-enhanced). The Wolverine is an unexpected success in the year's blockbuster field for action that is in service of the story and for a temperament that pays homage to samurai ronin legends as well as James Bond-style summer-movie joyousness. That it is 2013's least superhero-clichéd comic book fantasy is also high praise. And with The Wolverine still cursed with immortality, there will no doubt be more praises as the X-Men universe continues to expand (be sure not to look away before the credits are through). --Ted Fry

Review :
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE UNRATED CUT AND THE THEATRICAL CUT
The Unrated Cut runs about 12 minutes longer than the Theatrical Cut, and contains several new scenes including a much expanded ninja action scene. Wolverine drops a few more choice curse words and there is now CG-gore. I'd say it's more like a hard PG-13 rather than an R-rated cut.

The UNRATED Cut is much better than the theatrical cut.

**Note, SPOILERS follow, so read at your own risk**.

1) There is more gore, but primarily CGI blood sprays. Some shots of Wolverine's claws going through people's limbs, but nothing explicit. No graphic dismemberments.

2) Wolverine drops a few more f-bombs.

3) Some of the opening scenes depicting Wolverine at the POW camp are a little longer.

4) The scene involving Wolverine, an arrow, and the hunter is slightly longer and more brutal.

5) Slightly longer dialogue with Yukio on the way to the plane.

6) Relationship between Mariko and Yashida and Shingen and...

Film review: The Wolverine (2013)
Comparing "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to "The Wolverine" is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both about Marvel's burly and animalistic Wolverine, but they could not be any more different. Origins seemed to explore a bit of Wolvie's past under the framework of the prior X-Men movies (i.e. familiar characters, settings, and themes), but unfortunately it didn't hit home like the prior X-Men films. The writing fell flat, because 20th Century Fox took odd twists and turns with fan favorites like Gambit and Deadpool and then never expanded on them in future films like they promised. Instead of bridging Wolverine's backstory to the acclaimed X-Men trilogy, Fox ended up widening the gap.

However, "The Wolverine," takes an entirely different approach to the eponymous character. Audiences get to see the Adamantium and claws stripped away in a more emotionally driven film. Wolverine is facing an existential crisis. Following the events of "X-Men: The Last Stand"...

Review :
It's almost like a graphic novel of the original.
These three films illustrate just how difficult it is to make a movie of a story as complex as Atlas Shrugged. Unfortunately, the quality of each of the three parts is on a declining scale with AS3 being the least inspiring of them. Swapping out the cast for each segment didn't help. I admire the fact that at least an effort was made to tell a story that is so politically incorrect I only wish Ayn Rand could have been here to write the screen play. I view the Atlas Shrugged trilogy as a kind of video "Cliff Notes" of the book. You get the general idea but you must read the original in its entirety to understand what Rand was saying. I liked the book much better but that is frequently the case.

Not worth the wait.......
The third installment to the Atlas Shrugged trilogy is now out for viewing and review. Yay! and What the Hell? For the third time, the cast and crew have changed, and this time, not for the better. The actors in this movie are marginal at best, and definitely NOT suited for the roles in which they were cast. Not a single person who appeared in this installment possessed the gravitas to carry their role. None, zero, zippo, nada. The scenes were very disjointed and didn't flow very well. I would like the writers to have taken more time to write a more concise and tightly woven script for this final third of the book. I've heard there are tentative plans to produce this book as a 39 part, 3-year series. If so, I'm delighted, because what this book desperately needs is character consistency. The first actress who played Dagney was the strongest for that role. The person who played Wyatt in the second film was outstanding for the character, as was the actor who played Reardon. Even the...
Hooray for Ayn Rand and Capitalism
The large number of one’s star reviews of this movie by persons claiming to be Ayn Rand fans was a surprise. Last night I watched Atlas shrugged III and now I understand. While it is apparent from the special effects and the cast that this was a low-budget movie but it is one of the best examples of Ayn Rand’s philosophy that I have found. It is by far the most damning exposé of the Aristocracy’s plan to convert all of us “inferiors” into 21st century serfs. Now I understand why the Aristocracy is trying to discredit this film.
Am I an Ayn Rand fan? Absolutely! I discovered Ayn Rand in the early 60s since then I have read Atlas shrugged seven times and most of her the books more than once. I still have all the copies of the “Objectivist Newsletter” published years ago by an Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden.
Last night I watched all three parts of the “Atlas Shrugged” trilogy. Many of the scenes brought tears...

(EDIT) 12/19/2013. Now that Predator 3D has been released, I thought a brief update to this review might be useful.

I was surprised at the quality of the 3D conversion, given that it used the automated JVC Fox workstation that was used for Jumper 3D and I, Robot 3D. The process costs about a third of what a typical catalog 3D conversion costs and can be done with about 3 people in 3 months. In contrast, Titanic took hundreds of people over a year to convert.

The slow rate of adoption of 3D has been attributed, in part, to the lack of available content. Fox Home Entertainment with JVC developed a business model using automated equipment that allowed the 3D conversion of catalog movies profitably.
I was doubtful that they would be successful in this after watching 3D clips of I, Robot shortly after it was released. I changed my mind after purchasing and watching Predator 3D.

The only caveat is that the extras are provided via a Disk two DVD. (Disk...
Fox blows it on Blu-Ray again
My 1-star review is not for the movie, Predator, which I love. I bought it twice on DVD: the first single-disc release with no extras, and then the excellent 2-disc special edition. I am not going to be buying on Blu-Ray, however, until the chowder-heads over at Fox start including all of the ALREADY PRODUCED extras on their Blu-Ray discs. Case in point: Predator.

Predator on Blu-Ray features a higher definition transfer (though on a single layer disc), but carries over none of the special features from the 2-disc DVD. How hard would this have been? Make it a dual layer Blu-Ray, and just throw them all on there in standard definition. That would have guaranteed and instant buy for me. But this habit of dumping the film bare-bones onto Blu-Ray is reminiscent of the early days of DVD, and I thought we were past that. Other studios are doing a fine job of including all the special features, so why is Fox being dumb? And why are they slapping a $40 MSRP on a bare-bones...
Ultimate Hunter Edition is FANTASTIC!
I recently tried to watch my Predator DVD, circa 1997 (or thereabouts) and it looked horrible. It was a fullscreen, widescreen disc with black bars on top, bottom, left, and right (which insluts my HD TV). The film was also not cleaned before transfer so it included wonderful hairs and scratches too. That's not to mention the films always horrible fuzzyness.

Don't believe all the whiners, Predator: The Ultimate Hunter Edition is the best this film has ever looked, and probably ever will look. Some people complained about too much Digital Noise Reduction. They said that it doesn't look like its supposed to anymore...don't listen to them. I almost didn't buy this disc because of all the complaining people were doing, but I'm glad I did.

Yes, there are maybe 3 shots where Carl Weathers' face looks a little too smooth in the beginning of the film, but that comprises about 10 seconds of the film. The rest of it looks great. The film still has film grain, it just isn't...

Review :
Predator 3D (2013), Predator UHE (2010) and Predator (2008) blu-rays
