I LOVE this movie
When I was a kid in the 60's, Batman, Spiderman, and Captain America were my 3 favorite superheroes, and remain so to this day.
No need to rehash the other great reviews, but IMO, what they got SO RIGHT here was the CHARACTER of Steve Rogers BEFORE he becomes Captain America.
Just as Batman Begins had us totally invested in Bruce Wayne BEFORE he ever donned the cape and cowl, Marvel works the same type of magic with Steve Rogers & THAT (along with stellar performances by ALL the supporting cast) is what makes this a truly great film.
After suffering through the badly done CA movies of the past, it is a dream fulfilled to see the character brought to life so fantastically By Chris Evans & Joe Johnston.
And the Red Skull--OMG--Incredible makeup & Hugo Weaving shines as always to make the character come across as one of the premiere villains of the Marvel Universe.
Finally--watch the deleted ending scene to see how they really SHOULD have ended the movie--THAT...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase I Boxed set is the big promotional release containing all of the (current) canonical movies leading up to the release of Avengers that was captained by Joss Whedon. Amazon and Marvel did not screw us with a delay. Those who ordered before the lawsuit got the blu-ray of Avengers FOR FREE. That was fantastic service on their part. It shows that they weren't interested in ripping money from us. We didn't have to buy Avengers twice while waiting. Thank you!

You're not paying a lot per movie. If you want the movies, go buy them separately. I'm sure there's plenty good sales on them this month. If you want a COLLECTOR'S SET, buy this. Your money is paying for useless, fun, fanboy crap. And for fanboys, it's awesome.

Collector's Set Packaging Woes
To preface this review, let me state that it is in no way a comment about the films themselves. They are all wonderful. The two stars are for the packaging and content of the Collector's Set, which arrived at my door about half an hour ago.

I've had this on pre-order since it first appeared back in July of 2012. I never canceled my pre-order, so I ended up getting it for $139.99 (plus tax, now that Amazon has to comply with tax code). Would I buy it again for this price? Well, probably, because purchasing each of the film versions included individually would cost almost $200, so you're getting a great price cut on the whole set. With a savings of nearly $60, why would I only "probably" buy it again? Each of the discs is packaged in a glossy cardboard sleeve, and on delivery, some of my discs were already scratched from sliding. All of the disc sleeves are inserted with the sleeve openings angled towards the back of the case, resulting in sliding during shipment and storage...

Update 12-24-2013:

I just got the claw package for my younger brother's gift, so now I can review both the Adamantium Collection and the X-Men and the Wolverine Collection. To be honest, I had every intention to keep the claw for myself, but I guess I am getting too old, and it didn't help that the claw is not as extra ordinary as I would like it to be. I think this package is not worth the list price. It would be a nice product if the list price was around $80, because the quality of the claw and the stand is too cheap for the hefty list price. If you forget about the price, it will be a nice package, and the new printed labels for all the discs are nicer than previous releases. The claw is a little smaller than what I thought it would be; precisely, it is 15" tall and 6.5" wide. The discs contents are the same as the...
Well, it's a collection all right.
I was excited to see an X-Men package at my local retailer and picked it up, knowing I would enjoy all 6 movies. When I brought it home and opened it, I learned how cheap they were to toss this thing together. The first 3 movies clearly have "Disc 1" printed on the label, letting you know (if you're knowledgeable in collecting movies/games/etc.) that they simply took the discs from unsold packages (probably ones with expired digital copy/Ultraviolet codes) and threw them in this nice looking box. The other three movies (Origins, First Class, The Wolverine) didn't have any marking they came from another package, save for the Wolverine discs don't even share the same print as the first three movies (though they have "Disc 1" printed on them, they're uniform.) First class almost had the same print, but is still different enough to bother a collector. It also bothers me to see that you're apparently buying a collection, with the intent of apparently HAVING a collection,...

Complete Seasons Of Scooby-Doo's Best Mysteries!
My earliest and most fondest memory of watching the classic 1969 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was in the 70s early on Saturday morning when it was still dark outside. Considering how Scooby is often parodied today, this may surprise you but back then (to my young eyes) Scooby-Doo was kinda scary and creepy thanks to the creepy background settings, the monsters (my favorite: the skeleton-headed spaceman with the crazy laugh) and Ted Nichols' creepy underscore which could build up tension like Bernard Herrmann did for Hitchcock. Luckily, the tension would be broken with Scooby and Shaggy's comedic antics. Antics which typically resulted in the "musical chase numbers" which would conclude with the "monster" getting trapped, then unmasked, followed by the villain's obligatory "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids"...[and their dog]. As predictable, or even corny as others deem it be, all of this - the pure 60s/70s fun - is what has eternally...

Hanna-Barbara have put out this box-set of 4 DVDs containing every single complete episode of the ultra-classic "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?" that ran from 1969-1970. Don't be fooled that the title states "The Complete First and Second Seasons"; there only were two seasons.
What you WON'T find in this collection (thankfully) are the miriad of spin-offs and bad idea cartoons that were spawned by the original series - such as Scrappy-Doo, Scooby-Dumb, celebrity guest-appearances by Don Knotts, the Harlam Globetrotters and Sonny & Cher.
No, this collection is just all the original, pure, superb "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?" cartoons that ran from 1969-70. A Pleasant Suprise that Just Got Better
I'll admit, I wasn't feeling particularly hopeful for "Teen Titans" when I saw the first previews. We were already seeing quite a few animated shows copying the style of Japanese animation as it became more popular. So it was a very pleasant suprise when I found that "Teen Titans" not only featured a much deeper understanding of the workings of anime, but also focused on top notch voice acting and character centered storytelling. It took them an episode or two to really find their footing, but once they did, "Teen Titans" was one of the best shows on television, and later seasons only improved on what had been set up. I can see how the use of the more cartoony aspects of anime - super-deformed characters, anime inspired wild takes, and the like - might turn some people off, but do yourself a favor and watch a few episodes. Once you get used to the style, you'll start seeing the storytelling that kept fans of the show coming back.

This set compiles two previously released discs, making up the entire first season of Cartoon Network's breakaway hit that introduced the Titans to a new generation and paved the way for Japanese popsters Puffy Amiyumi to develop their own cartoon show. Season 1's overall arc introduces Slade (known in the comics as Deathstroke The Terminator) and his attempts to coerce Robin into becoming his apprentice, and Robin's continued battle against Slade and his influence.

Slade is presented here as the anti-Batman, making a much more frightening villain than Bane (who is actually a good villian but has been presented in most cinematic media as a thorough waste of ink). This 2-disc set collects the first 13 episodes of Teen Titans, which were also previously released on 2 single-disc editions.

I like Teen Titans. It's a very different take on the DC characters than Batman, Superman, and Justice League, and there are obvious anime influences in the fight scenes and gags. What's nice about the series is that while it generally writes towards a younger audience, it's never so simplistic that it alienates the older crowd. The chemistry between the five leads is great, and there are occasional moments of lunacy that will make you wonder if the staff is secretly taking anything in the back room (ie the Mad Mod episode). My two daughters (ages 3 and 5) really love the new Sofia The First: Once Upon a Princess TV Movie that came out on Disney Channel at the end of 2012. It is a cute story with cute characters. I would say it is geared towards younger, Disney Junior age kids due to the simple story and ages of the main characters. The story introduces the King and new Queen (Sofia's mother), Sofia and her new Stepbrother and Stepsister, the Fairies who teach at Royal Prep Academy (Sofia's new school), the Castle Sorcerer (the bumbling bad guy), and several other characters. There is minor, Disney style conflict with the new stepsister and the castle sorcerer which gives the story a great plot. Cinderella even makes an appearance to help the newest Disney Princess.

My girls have watched this movie over and over since it came out and quickly memorized all the songs. They would sing along with the TV Movie and would wander around the house singing the songs all the time. We have already...

The only reason i did not give this a 5 star is that there is a sticker on the DVD that states "Includes FREE princess in Training Activity Kit with Stickers & Tiaras". Now when i ordered the product, the description was for a DVD only. But if you are going to describe it as such, then the sticker should have been removed prior to deliver or i am going to think that something is not amiss. It does not matter to me that the seller is perhaps selling the activity kit separately, but now that i know it should have came with the DVD it annoys me.

It's the dinosaurs, got to love them.
Finally, after all the years of tortuous waiting Dinosaurs has been released to DVD! This is truly an excellent and hilarious show that has won numerous awards over the years. For those of you who are interested, this is a list of the episodes included in this four disc set of DVD's which includes both season one and two.

Season 1 (1991)

1. The Mighty Megalosaurus (original air date 4/26/91)

This is the first, and one of the all time best episodes of Dinosaurs. Earl has a talk with his newborn son and tells him about the days preceding his hatching. As his tale progresses, he relates his hilarious attempt to attain a raise from his vindictive boss, B.P. Richfield, and the subsequent results. [Overall episode rating : 5 stars.]

2. The Mating Dance (original air date 5/3/91)

Fran, Earl's ever complaining wife, is becoming depressed due to all the work involved with caring for the new baby. As time progresses, Earl eventually...
Funniest animation ever!!!

As others have said, this was a show ahead of its time. Its sometimes biting satire was extremely well done. But it wasn't always satirical. It displayed love, family values, the foibles of raising children and many other human emotions and societal situations.

I used to use episodes for my college level management course, especially the ones featuring the WESAYSO company (Earl's employer) and intereactions between Earl and his boss. Those situations were closer to the truth about corporate life than at least one of the previous reviewers can face.

The hurtling of Ethel (an amazing character) was a wonderful satire on what we do with our senior citizens in this culture.

Buy this 2 disc set and keep an eye out for the next editions. I am.

A Show Before Its Time
Dinosaurs was a cutting edge comedy that was definitely before its time.

This cannot truly be considered animation nor a puppet show. Each character had two performers. The first was an actor in a dinosaur costume that did the visual. The second was a voice actor. This created a unique hybrid.

Add to this a writing team that was not afraid to make fun of itself. (Great scene - The family is watching Unsolved Mysteries when Robert Stack says, the next episode we will investigate why people watch this show when a much better show is on another network. --At that time Unsolved Mysteries was Dinosaur's competition.)

The show of course takes place during the Jurassic period and the dinosaurs rule the place like humans, while the humans are cavemen who are wild.

The first season was a summer show with five episodes. The second season was a full season with 24 episodes.

Let's hope that they release the last three seasons...
