Captain America: The Winter Soldier is not only a great sequel but perhaps the best standalone Marvel Studios film to date. Trust me, I don't say that lightly. I wasn't overly fond of the Captain's first feature, and my reaction to most of the Marvel Studios films has been mixed. With that in mind, coming out of the theater I have to say 'The Winter Soldier' isn't only a great superhero movie, a great standalone Marvel Studios film, but that Captain America: The Winter Soldier may even be better than The Avengers!

At the start of the film Steve Rogers (AKA Captain America) is still acclimating to modern life after having been frozen since WWII, and is working under the orders of Nick Fury and SHIELD. Already having doubts about SHIELD's motives and methods Rogers suddenly finds himself at the center of a conflict festering at the heart of SHIELD and must fight alongside other agents to stop a villainous plot to establish a new world order. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an absolute blast and fans young and old will be delighted with how well it establishes Captain America as the hero we've always known him as. It is in my opinion the finest movie Marvel Studios has ever made(Iron Man being a very very close second), and also the darkest, and i mean dark. After 2014's rocky start, Finally I have a review that is going to be thoroughly positive. And I must say I am not only ready to view this movie a 2nd time, I am Eagerly ready to make the blu ray purchase for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

After a mission that pits our Captain against a deadly mercenary by the name of Batroc, Captain America is called upon by Alexander Pierce to Shield. But after an immediate distrust between these two and the rise of a new prey simply known as, Winter Soldier, Captain America is thrust into a vicious war.

Chris Evans really upped his level of heroism and expertise in donning the infamous shield with honor. Samuel L Jackson I feel did a lot better portraying Nick Fury than he did in the previous Marvel movies. And I definitely commend Marvel for making the decision to include Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon. As the father of twin three year olds who are enamored with the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse series, this DVD seemed like a reasonable gift. The number of repeat viewings at our house has outnumbered those for Mom or Dad's DVDs, so I feel qualified to write a review.

PROS

The quality of the episodes shares the same strengths of the series in general. Bright, colorful computer generated graphics are used in conjunction with simple plots. Mickey and his friends are friendly, interesting characters that our little guys have enjoyed since their twos. There are a few bouncy songs, but adults probably won't find them cloying or otherwise Barney-esque.

The main feature obviously focuses on Mickey's train, which is a natural theme for toddlers. It seems to be a holiday-themed episode, given the presence of snow and cameos by two icons of the Christmas season. The main feature runs at twice the length of a typical episode. "MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE" is a children's television animated series (presented in CG) that airs on the Disney Channel's "Playhouse Disney" block targeted towards pre-school children.

The series is created in a similar style as "Blue's Clues" and "Dora the Explorer" in terms of the main character interacting with the viewer. "MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE" features Mickey Mouse as the main character communicating with his friends and then occasionally looking towards the viewer for help in a variety of adventures. Mickey uses a variety of tools and a compass inside the clubhouse to help them solve their problems and get from point A to point B. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse has changed a lot since I first saw it years ago. Mickey and his pals, Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto are in their own half hour cartoon to teach young children colors, alphabet, numbers, shapes, cooperation, friendship and more. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Choo Choo Express was a special episode of the show and was an hour long instead of the usual half hour.

Alright we have watched the Little Mermaid and were treated to an event in the Little Mermaid 2 Return to the Sea to meet Ariel's daughter Melody , and than we are taken to the past to see a glimps of Ariel's childhood and even see her mother for a few brief minutes before tragedy falls .

The films do an alright job fitting along side of their crowning jewel .

The only downer in this franchise is that there are many deleted scenes and bonus features that could make these editions worth while but the damn company wont give a good fully loaded copy of the prequel and sequel . With BluRay you would think they would unload a whole grotto of features onto the disc....

Take as an example, The Lion King 2 has a nice bit of deleted scenes, however there has never been a release of the deleted scenes in the USA .

It is a shame when a great edition could make for better sales

Cute followups that give Little Mermaid fans a little more of her world. Disney's classic animation is here of course and it's gorgeous on BluRay ... Life is easier when we're watching through the Apple TV - or at least, it allows me to be lazier.

My Little Mermaid Lover Likes them!

My 3 year old is OBSESSED with The Little Mermaid, so I thought she'd love this set too. She really likes both of the movies. Ariel's Beginning is a pre-qual to the original and has the same great characters, along with some new ones. The Little Mermaid II is about Ariel's mermaid daughter and introduces lots of new, fun characters. Like most straight to DVD films, the songs aren't as great and the voice acting is not as well done for all of the characters, but for my Little Mermaid lover, it's still very good!

Great Addition to the Disney Princess Lineup for Younger Kids!
My two daughters (ages 3 and 5) really love the new Sofia The First: Once Upon a Princess TV Movie that came out on Disney Channel at the end of 2012. It is a cute story with cute characters. I would say it is geared towards younger, Disney Junior age kids due to the simple story and ages of the main characters. The story introduces the King and new Queen (Sofia's mother), Sofia and her new Stepbrother and Stepsister, the Fairies who teach at Royal Prep Academy (Sofia's new school), the Castle Sorcerer (the bumbling bad guy), and several other characters. There is minor, Disney style conflict with the new stepsister and the castle sorcerer which gives the story a great plot. Cinderella even makes an appearance to help the newest Disney Princess.

My girls have watched this movie over and over since it came out and quickly memorized all the songs. They would sing along with the TV Movie and would wander around the house singing the songs all the time. We have already...

The product came on time. I'm a prime member so i received it in the 2 days specified. No delays at all. nicely packaged. No damages what so ever. The only reason i did not give this a 5 star is that there is a sticker on the DVD that states "Includes FREE princess in Training Activity Kit with Stickers & Tiaras". Now when i ordered the product, the description was for a DVD only. But if you are going to describe it as such, then the sticker should have been removed prior to deliver or i am going to think that something is not amiss. It does not matter to me that the seller is perhaps selling the activity kit separately, but now that i know it should have came with the DVD it annoys me.

Granddaughter's Favorite Princess of All

Granddaughter really took to Princess Sofia better than all Princesses before Her. We have watched the movie over, over and over again, glad DVDs were invented, VHS never would have lasted. Hope Princess Sofia stays around for years to come.

I love the movie but this DVD is seriously flawed

I picked this DVD up today and got it home to find that Disney had altered the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1 to make the movie "fit" on widescreen TVs. They did this by chopping off the top and bottom of the image. This results in the loss of a good deal of character animation (at least the tops of their heads and their feet). Trust me, I own the original Limited Issue DVD of this film and I did a side-by-side comparison as soon as I got the new Platinum Edition home. If you are a purist about original aspect ratios, please avoid this release and petition Disney to start a free disc replacement program. We should at least have the option of watching the original unaltered film the way that it was meant to be seen.

Disney's The Jungle Book - Limited Issue DVD
When it comes to DVDs, I would probably be the first in line to complain about releases that have mediocre supplements. But I felt like I had to make an exception when it came to Disney. All of their "Limited Issues" seem to have little or no extras at all, but the actual animated classic that the disc holds, for me anyway, more then makes up for it.
"The Jungle Book" is one of the first Disney Movies that I watched as a kid. I bought the DVD, and I saw the movie today for the first time in around 12 years. The entertainment value is suprisingly still there, and more over, as a grown up movie fan, I can appreciate the film more as a classic in animated films from Disney & not just a 'cartoon' to pass the time, like I considered it to be as an adolecent.
The picture and sound is satisfying for the film's age and genre; the Spanish Dubbing is an excellent addition, for some of my family anyway. But it pales in comparison to the English vocals; The...
A �Bear Necessity�
This movie is more than just another Disney masterpiece. The Jungle Book is a great tale of friendship and adventure. Although almost every animated feature that was created during Walt Disney's life is a classic, this one in particular holds a special place in the heart of many men (and now thanks to video and DVD, boys) who saw it while growing up. There isn't a boy alive who can see this movie and not want to be Mowgli. What a life it would be to live in the jungle, with friends like Baloo and Bagheera. It is every young boys dream to be so free.
That is not to say that only boys will love this movie. As with all Disney films, this one will be enjoyed by all members of the family, young and old. I saw it growing up, and never forgot my memories of the movie, and the days afterward, singing the songs and dreaming of adventure.
The music in The Jungle Book is some of the best in any Disney movie. "The Bare Necessities" is simply one of the best songs...

A departure from the other Tink films but with a meaningful plot that tugs at the heartstrings
My daughter, who is now 10 years old, has grown up watching the Tinker Bell animated features. Our least favorite was the Pirate Fairy - it just didn't appeal to either of us. However, this new installment, "Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast" is not only a departure from the other Tinker Bell features, it is also way more serious in the themes explored.

The storyline revolves around Fawn, the animal talent fairy, who is constantly getting into trouble because of her love for animals which causes her to try and protect all creatures, even the ones that could potentially harm the fairies such as the hawks. This puts Fawn into direct conflict with the head scout fairy. One day, Fawn discovers a gigantic creature and names it Gruff because of its gruff demeanor. Strangely, Gruff seems bent on building towers and this behavior baffles Fawn. Knowing the scouts are on Gruff's trail forces Fawn to disclose her secret to her best friends: Tink, Iridessa,...
Dealing with friendship and loss with a sensitivity that is near perfect
Wow. This was the best Tinkerbell movie yet. It is powerful, incites intense emotion, is a tearjerker of the best and most wonderful sort. A true fairy tale in the tradition of both Disney and real fairy tales. Love, friendship, misunderstanding, loss and heroism are all beautifully dealt with in this movie. I believe it's worthy of any award out there. And yes, I and my family, including my husband, 13 year old son and 9 year old daughter were all in tears at the end every time we have watched it, but those tears are not a bad thing. They are a release. Yes, Fawn and Gruff will not be together again because of how the life cycle of the Neverbeast works. He'll wake again in another thousand years, and she'll be long gone. But they knew each other. And they had a wonderful friendship while they did. To keep this movie from children, as some have suggested, is a folly I think. Children know love. They know loss. If we as adults don't address it with them they won't know how...
Great Movie, but not for preschoolers or toddlers.
My daughter loves all the Disney Fairy movies so I purchased this for her and previewed it before letting her see it. We will wait awhile before showing her this movie because it is too intense and scary for our 4 year old. I am still giving this movie 4 stars because it is a good movie. Great animation, great new characters added to the fairy franchise and a sweet story with a good message. It is not my favorite of all the fairy movies, but it is a nice addition to the library. All kids are different, so I will include the parts to watch out for so other parents can decide whether this movie is okay for their child.

***SPOILERS BELOW***There is an extended and intense scene where hawks are attacking the fairies (fans will have seen this in other fairy movies), the scene where Fawn first meets Gruff is scary - she travels alone through dark and creepy woods and walks through a cave in darkness while Gruff growls and yowls (he is injured). These two scenes are very close...

Not Disney's Best HD Transfer
Fox and the Hound has always been a favorite of mine. The characters are great, the story is heartwarming to say the least. After buying a slew of the latest Disney Blu Ray releases (Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, Bambi, etc) I was expecting another state-of-the-art fantastic 1080p transfer. Unfortunately, the Mouse House has not taken this title as seriously as some of the others in its vault. Instead of giving us a glorious, painstakingly perfect restoration, it would seem they opted for tossing in the insulting "sequel" Fox and the Hound II to make up for the slacking effort.

Now I won't say it looks awful. This Blu Ray is clearly a significant upgrade from the DVD, but it is also obviously missing the Disney touch I've come to expect. For example, at the bottom right hand corner of the picture you will see an occasional black line flicker in and out. Ordinarily Disney has gone in and removed these kind of print damages, through intense digital editing or by some...
The Fox and the Hound: Underrated Disney Classic comes to good but not great blu
I always held a special place in my heart for this film. Its adorable characters were too much to take, and it was a great tale of friendship. It's sad how Disney chooses not to acknowledge this film much. What does it get? A stuffed animal in the Disney Store? Not even a mug, or pens. Just, recently, plush toys. It isn't like many Disney films. If you are a die hard fan of recent Disney, Disney Renaissance, and the classics, then you may not find it....to your liking. The film has some magic from Classic Disney, but, as it was in the odd years of Disney, it has that feel of a transgression for the studio.

Disney brings this wonderful film to blu ray, and, as i said, Disney doesn't acknowledge the film too much. Maybe that's why is didn't get a pristine conversion, but a good one. The colors are vibrant, lines visibly drawn, but there are problems. One problem that is most easily noticed is the fact that in certain shots, the drawn lines appear blurred. Now, i don't know if...
30 years young and this??

I feel short of neutral about the Fox and the Hound movie itself. But that doesn't mean I'm not upset about Disney's HD transfer. It is quite clear that it didn't get the same remastering treatment as the other Disney classics. I guess because it's not as popular, Disney thought that they didn't need to spend as much time into restoring it. Well, that's just silly. If you're a fan of the film, demand that Disney rerelease it as a stand-alone title with a new remaster.

Great Addition to the Disney Princess Lineup for Younger Kids!
My two daughters (ages 3 and 5) really love the new Sofia The First: Once Upon a Princess TV Movie that came out on Disney Channel at the end of 2012. It is a cute story with cute characters. I would say it is geared towards younger, Disney Junior age kids due to the simple story and ages of the main characters. The story introduces the King and new Queen (Sofia's mother), Sofia and her new Stepbrother and Stepsister, the Fairies who teach at Royal Prep Academy (Sofia's new school), the Castle Sorcerer (the bumbling bad guy), and several other characters. There is minor, Disney style conflict with the new stepsister and the castle sorcerer which gives the story a great plot. Cinderella even makes an appearance to help the newest Disney Princess.

My girls have watched this movie over and over since it came out and quickly memorized all the songs. They would sing along with the TV Movie and would wander around the house singing the songs all the time. We have already...

The product came on time. I'm a prime member so i received it in the 2 days specified. No delays at all. nicely packaged. No damages what so ever. The only reason i did not give this a 5 star is that there is a sticker on the DVD that states "Includes FREE princess in Training Activity Kit with Stickers & Tiaras". Now when i ordered the product, the description was for a DVD only. But if you are going to describe it as such, then the sticker should have been removed prior to deliver or i am going to think that something is not amiss. It does not matter to me that the seller is perhaps selling the activity kit separately, but now that i know it should have came with the DVD it annoys me.

Granddaughter's Favorite Princess of All

Granddaughter really took to Princess Sofia better than all Princesses before Her. We have watched the movie over, over and over again, glad DVDs were invented, VHS never would have lasted. Hope Princess Sofia stays around for years to come.

A lovely tribute to the Islands!
There have been some fine Disney animated features over the years, but this is the one that I watch over and over again. For my money, this stands head and shoulders above the rest of the animated movies I've seen (and I try to see them all).

ANIMATION - A+: In the opening scene of the hula dancers, observe the reflections of the dancers on the wood floor. Wow!

PRODUCTION VALUES - A+: The movie is visually stunning. The backgrounds look like watercolor paintings and are extremely colorful. The backgrounds completely capture the look, colors, and flavor of living in a small town in Hawaii.

CHARACTER DESIGN - A+: The directors took great pains to design the look of the characters. Unlike most Disney women characters, the older sister has some meat on her bones and looks athletic, not anemic. Hallelujah! A more realistic approach to portraying women.

Lilo reminds me so much of my Hawaiian nieces in the way she moves and speaks! And the...
So original - I just wish I could have seen it when I was 8!
First of all, please forgive me for going on in this review like I'm writing a college essay - the film is light and fun, and I don't want you to get the impression that it is anything less. I just want to answer the charge that no thought has gone into the issues covered in the film, or that the film indulges in meanness for the sake of a cheap laugh. This is not an attack on the reviewer that made the review I disagree with, but an explanation of why I disagree with the reviewer's points. I've never answered a review directly before, but I liked this film, and feel that the review by "storyboarder" elsewhere on this review page (who no doubt makes points that others agree with) was a little unfair, and that maybe the reviewer and others aren't reading between the lines as well as they should if they're truly choosing to hold this film to its apparent themes as rigorously as they claim.
The film did indeed take on a weighty subject as the reviewer says, but I don't agree it was...

QUALITY: Unsurprisingly, the video quality is stunning. Little else needs to be said about the transfer. It's flawless.

EXTRAS: There are a TON of extras!

If you like the behind-the-scenes process of filmmaking, the extras here are about as extensive as I've seen before. Not only do the shorts give a background of life on Pixar's campus (Campus Life), but plenty of dedication to each aspect of making the film. Of course, there's also some deleted scenes.

What's nice about the scenes is that director Dan Scalon talks you through the scene in detail and why it was cut. They are of course unfinished, but still interesting to see what could have been part of the movie.

If I have one complaint, it's the layout of the bonus features menu. Despite the features being on a blu-ray disc, the menu does not operate like a blu-ray menu. Typically, you're able to operate within the menu while the movie...
Monsters U - Go

You can't go wrong with Sullivan and Mike they are just too funny. I was hoping that they would have a second Monsters release and here it is. Everyone who has gone to college will get a kick out of this - It really isn't only just for kids.

Pixar returns to its magical ways.
Dumb me! Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb me! All summer I put my faith and hope in the big blockbuster films, the Iron Man 3's and Star Treks of the world. And from Man of Steel to Pacific Rim almost without fail these over budgeted, underwritten explosiony action films left me feeling disappointed and underwhelmed. Except for World War Z there is not a single movie I've seen this summer that I can truly say was a great film. Some were better than others (Oblivion and Pacific Rim were both pretty good) but considering their competition was Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness that's not saying much. All the while I put off seeing Monsters U for weeks. "It looks silly" I said, "Pixar has lost its mojo" the idiot side of my brain insisted. Well, that sure teaches me. I will never doubt Pixar again. Even if they make another mediocre film like Brave, they have more than proven themselves still capable of making a damn good film.

Wall E will always be my favorite Pixar...

Wait until October 2015!!!!!

This movie is AWESOME but do not buy this right now!! Disney is FINALLY releasing Aladdin under their Diamond line in the US in October 2015. It's bound to be LOADED with extras and have perfect audio and video. Just wait a few more months!!

Finally, but beware of alterations!
When Disney's Aladdin was released on videotape and laserdisc for the first time in October 1993, it debuted with a PC alteration, immediately into the film, as a line from the opening song was changed because of concerns over Arab stereotyping - "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" became the neutral "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense".
As the film makes is debut on DVD later this year, prepare for more changes, albeit subtle. Just like they did with The Lion King, the Disney team is not using the original theatrical presentation of the film, but a re-issue created for IMAX theatres, which featured some redrawn sequences, supposedly necessary because the original footage in question was problematic on the giant IMAX screen (Examples of the changes to The Lion King can be easily found on the web). The difference this time around is that no one ever saw it. The IMAX presentations were financially unrewarding to Disney, and Aladdin was...
Import Blu Ray...and it works!
I don't usually bother writing reviews, because it always opens a can of worms and reviews can eventually become a boxing match for the righteous. I don't have time for nit picking and nonsense. However, I wanted to write this one to help others in the US avoid any stress in case they decide to buy this Blu Ray version, as it is a UK import. Until my purchase arrived, I was unclear, because most reviews of the Blu ray import are lacking in this basic, clear statement: IT WORKS.

So then, I will happily repeat myself for your benefit and will say that, first and foremost: IT WORKS IN US BLU RAY PLAYERS without a hitch! There are no PAL/NTSC issues. Also, as stated in the listing, it contains several languages, starting with the original English, but there is no Spanish (in case this is a concern for you). Also, just so you know, there is NO DVD COPY with this BLU RAY package.

The video and audio quality are what you'd expect from a US Disney Blu Ray release, so...
