I wish I could give this movie six stars instead of five.
Remember the Titans is the true story of a small town in Virginia during the 1970's. The "white" high school and the "black" high school are forced to combine into one as the town explodes in racial havoc. Just as the caucasian football coach Yoast is about to enter the Virginian high school football hall of fame, he is demoted to assistant head coach when the two high schools combine. The new head coach is Coach Boone (Denzel Washington), an experienced African-American football coach that recently moved there. On top of this being between the two coaches, they have to figure out how to bring two teams into one and to end the prejudice between the players.
Though the plot seems rather dark from the above description, the movie does a great job balancing itself so that it is dramatic and you are able to understand what racism was like during that time period, but there is plenty of humor to cause you not to be upset during the entire film.

Boone's determination to win is only outmatched by his drive for racial harmony within the team and coaching staff. By forcing his players to interact he creates bonds and friendships. Throughout all of this he knows he must win or his tenure as head coach will be short lived. He must not only battle the racial tension in the team, but in the town as well. Only his sheer will can guide his team to the promised land.
The movie is an outstanding piece of cinema. It adresses a social issue with raw emotional power. It teaches a lesson without screaming it in your face. The acting is without a doubt full of some of the best performances of the year to not have been...
A memorable movie and DVD....
I first saw "Remember the Titans" in the theater with a group of younger friends, who did not live through the civil rights movement or the uneasy truce that existed through the next 10 years. It was interesting to see their reactions to the chasm that existed on the "battlefield" of the public school system. Although "RtT" doesn't explore the issues of the time in a substantive way, the film makes it easy to believe that the situations were real. The football field action is impressively filmed and the soundtrack is outstanding.
Will Patton and a terrific cast of young actors will entertain you and make you believe for the run of the movie. And although some scenes are corny, (every scene that features Coach Yost's daughter!) you find yourself caught up in not only the game, but in what it represents as a centerpiece for a small town or city.
I confess that there is no movie featuring Denzel Washington that I don't like! His performance...

This is season 2 of the Teen Titans series, and is notable for adapting the "Judas Contract" story arc from the comics. Terra is introduced, and Beast Boy is given something else to do other than play the comic relief. In other episodes Starfire is blasted to the future and meets Nightwing(!), Robin takes Killer Moth's daughter to the prom, and the Titans compete in a tournament of heroes and gain new allies. The obligatory "fractured" episode of the season is just that, with an imp named Larry breaking reality and causing chaos for everyone. The only blemish is the tail end of the season finale, which seems to take the easy way out after all the built-up character drama.

So we get another nice, compact, affordable collection of episodes. Half of this season was already released under the subtitle "Fear Itself," but this is the only place to pick up the remaining 7 episodes. Since Warner Bros. doesn't seem to be releasing another single disc for those who bought the first...

After Season 1 expanded on introducing the five main characters (Robin,Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg) and their personalities and attitudes towards each other, it was now time for the show to take on a different storyline. The creators of the cartoon decided to take one of the biggest storylines from The New Teen Titans comic series "Judas Contract" and adapt it to a younger audience in the cartoon. While making the adaptation kid-friendly, the creators did not loose sight of what the "Judas Contract" was all about. This makes for an excellent season of Teen Titans that both comic and cartoon lovers could enjoy!

This season introduces the character of Terra Markov. In the episode 'Terra' the Teen Titans meet the geomancer and Beast Boy's love is practically instant for her when she laughs at one of his jokes (which is quite rare for the changeling). It is shown in this episode that there is an obvious connection and possible future relationship between the two...

I think that Warner finally figured out that people don't want to purchase disc after disc of just a few episodes in order to enjoy their favorite programs. This second season of Teen Titans is a must have if you are a fan of the show at all. Don't be fooled into purchasing "Fear Itself" (Season 2, Volume 1), as then the only way for you to purchase the second half of the season is to purchase the ENTIRE season which is included in this offering (there is no Season 2, Volume 2 offered). Our family loves Teen Titans, and we have children aged 4-24!! When our four year old son went to stay with his older married sister, his 27 year old brother-in-law begged him to bring Teen Titans along!

A Pleasant Suprise that Just Got Better
I'll admit, I wasn't feeling particularly hopeful for "Teen Titans" when I saw the first previews. We were already seeing quite a few animated shows copying the style of Japanese animation as it became more popular. So it was a very pleasant suprise when I found that "Teen Titans" not only featured a much deeper understanding of the workings of anime, but also focused on top notch voice acting and character centered storytelling. It took them an episode or two to really find their footing, but once they did, "Teen Titans" was one of the best shows on television, and later seasons only improved on what had been set up. I can see how the use of the more cartoony aspects of anime - super-deformed characters, anime inspired wild takes, and the like - might turn some people off, but do yourself a favor and watch a few episodes. Once you get used to the style, you'll start seeing the storytelling that kept fans of the show coming back.

This set compiles two previously released discs, making up the entire first season of Cartoon Network's breakaway hit that introduced the Titans to a new generation and paved the way for Japanese popsters Puffy Amiyumi to develop their own cartoon show. Season 1's overall arc introduces Slade (known in the comics as Deathstroke The Terminator) and his attempts to coerce Robin into becoming his apprentice, and Robin's continued battle against Slade and his influence.

Slade is presented here as the anti-Batman, making a much more frightening villain than Bane (who is actually a good villian but has been presented in most cinematic media as a thorough waste of ink). Despite the detractors' complaints of its anime influence, Teen Titans is a well-written and extremely well-done series, with seasons 2, 3, and 4 going on to deal with Slade's destruction and its aftermath, Brother Blood and the Hive, the creation of the West Coast team, the threat of Raven's demonoid father...

This 2-disc set collects the first 13 episodes of Teen Titans, which were also previously released on 2 single-disc editions.

I like Teen Titans. It's a very different take on the DC characters than Batman, Superman, and Justice League, and there are obvious anime influences in the fight scenes and gags. What's nice about the series is that while it generally writes towards a younger audience, it's never so simplistic that it alienates the older crowd. The chemistry between the five leads is great, and there are occasional moments of lunacy that will make you wonder if the staff is secretly taking anything in the back room (ie the Mad Mod episode). Plus season 1's underlying subplot involving Slade (voiced expertly by Ron 'Hellboy' Perlman) is as dark and driven as anything in the Batman shows. The only time this show falls flat for me is when it puts stylized action over story essentials, which some of the early episodes here fall into.

Teen Titans Fans will love

These DVDs put together all episodes of Teen Titans (excluding the post-series movie) in one neat shrink-wrapped package. The menu artwork and graphics are stunning and there are bonus features about the making of the TV series...great for any Teen Titans fan like my son and even for casual viewers like myself. Great present.

A good choice and a good value

Wonderful for viewers who have seen random episodes on TV and would like to see the whole collection. The special features are a pretty good bonus too.

Teen Titans Rock!

This is a fun tv series that my 7 year old watched in syndication and now has revisited at age 11.

Although not entirely true to the comic books, this is still fun to watch. The animation is stylized, but it does not detract from the story. The rapport and interaction between characters is consistent and the scenes are cohesive with the metaplot that comes together in Season Five.

Very similar to the Batman series and Superman series, but not as dark, and with more humor.

The complete Seasons 1-5 does not come in a sleeve or have different artwork that span the cases. It is simply 5 DVD cases shrink wrapped together. It's a good buy because they did split up Season 1&2 and for the seasons combined, this is your cheapest and most straight forward run.

Don't forget the Teen Titan's movie, Trouble in Tokyo, and their upcoming film next year in 2011 (so we hope!)
