Vastly outnumbered by a band of villains, led by Wirepa (Te Kohe Tuhaka), Hongi's only hope is to pass through the feared and forbidden Dead Lands and forge an uneasy alliance with the mysterious "Warrior" (Lawrence Makoare), a ruthless fighter who has ruled the area for years.

Review :
A Gem from New Zealand
I don't regret the time I spent watching this gem from New Zealand. Not a moment was wasted. The Dead Lands is a well-crafted story of warring Maori tribes and of one young man in particular who survives a massacre. His entire family was wiped out. Driven by the need for revenge, he becomes a warrior as brutal in battle as the enemy he despises. Inevitably, though, he runs up against the ugly truth about violence and takes a surprising action, a leap of faith. It's not something I could have experienced in a typical Hollywood film.

its a damn good movie. Villians
Go into this expecting:
1. the natives to not know English, hence subtitles
2. It to be about times before the cell phone
3. people killed people then, a lot, and sometimes ate them. that's what they did, get over it.
4. Its spiritual, big surprise, back then everything was spiritual. Omens, talismans, witches, etc....
5. its a damn good movie. Villians, Hero's, Anti-Hero's/Anti-villians... hard to see who is good and who is bad till the very end, if you pay attentionto the movie, the main character has some trouble knowing which way to lean, great job!

A Powerful Movie!
I watched this at the Hawaii International Film Festival and plan on getting it as soon as available. A wonderful piece of cinema - delving deeply into Maori culture. What struck me most was the similarities between Samurai and Maori honor codes - the reverence for the ancestors and the need for remembrance. The film is very gory so I would not recommend it for the very young or weak of stomach - but the authenticity of the costumes and the wonderful performances of the actors make it a powerful experience. Bravo to all involved in this movie!

There is a genre of movie out there that gets plenty of looks but not always attention. These are the direct to DVD movies that show up in rental stores, online orders and rental boxes across the country. If they receive a box office release it’s such a soft release that most people will never know it happened. Many of these titles deserve to be released that way because they, well, stink. But there are some that are actually pretty good. They just don’t have enough oomph to draw in big numbers. SKIN TRADE is one of those.

Story wise we’re talking about the buying and selling of human beings, for the most part women, in various countries to be sold to buyers around the world. Here we have two countries involved in trying to put an end to this heinous crime. In Thailand Detective Tony Vitayakul (Tony Jaa) is on the hunt for a group of criminals kidnapping young women for this purpose. At the...

Awesome! If you're a Dolph Lundgren and Tony Jaa fan you will love Skin Trade.

One of the Better Action Films of the Year
A rock solid action film with a couple dramatic twists and some surprisingly good character moments. The fights are a highlight. The photography is crisp and editing clear (no shaky cam). Definitely an underrated action film.
