Following what was most likely the last ever episode of Lewis, this is the DVD set we have all been waiting for. It contains all 27 episodes in the six seasons of Inspector Lewis including the original pilot. Do not be misled by the Amazon description which at the time of writing states a running time of 430 minutes - I presume it will be corrected in due course. In fact these 14 discs run to no less than 2,430 minutes, which is enough to keep us all absorbed for some time! Most importantly these are stated to be the full length UK edition - there has been much criticism of cuts made for the North American releases of some of the Lewis DVD sets in the past.

It is hard to believe that the pilot show was broadcast as recently as 2006, as it seems that Inspector Lewis has been part of our viewing lives for so much longer. I think this is to a large extent, because the character of Lewis first appeared in Morse as long ago as 1986 and has been played by Kevin Whately...

Excellent series. Only 4 stars because the music is often so loud that it drowns out the dialogue. It's too bad there is no way for viewers to adjust the music tract separately from the voice tract.

Great series, especially as it is the UK broadcast version which is unedited. Typical British detective series which might not appeal to many US viewers as the plots develop at a leisurely pace, and tend to be a little more intellectual. If you enjoy good acting, and a well written plot with not too much gratuitous violence, you will love this.

Though he doesn't make a formal entrance until episode three, an infamous figure from Sherlock's future has a hand in each mystery, while the detective's brother, Mycroft (co-creator Mark Gatiss), first appears when he tries to hire Watson for a case of his own, an offer that gives the good doctor pause. Through his job at a medical office, Watson also meets Sarah (Zoe Telford), who becomes his girlfriend.

Part of the fun of Jeremy Brett's Holmes (and Agatha Christie's Poirot) came from the period details, so this update takes a little getting used to--as does the occasional mumbled line--but Cumberbatch and Freeman share an enjoyable Odd Couple rapport, marked by flashes of deadpan wit, which compensates for the absence of deerstalker caps (Holmes favors scarves) and journals (Watson maintains a website). Extras include commentary on the finale, the original pilot, and a featurette, in which cocreator Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) notes that Cumberbatch was his only choice for the title role. --Kathleen C. Intelligent, updated and engaging man for all ages
Sherlock Holmes....makes brainy sexy. Sure he's a self described "high functioning sociopath", with no people skills; but he's brilliant, driven and dresses wonderfully. Dr. John Watson is not a patsy (not a sidekick - he's a partner); sharp, wry, worldly man of action who tolerates Sherlock's idiosyncrasies because he misses the adrenaline edge of combat and seeks meaning in a life after war. They are evenly matched although Sherlock draws the attention and enmity of their foes - Watson is a good second.

The writing is engaging, cheeky, smart and fast paced. It rolls current technology into the stream of consciousness. The looks of awe when Sherlock figures it out - and his amusement when he learns he's alone are priceless. The cinematography, costumes, lighting and use of text overlays to move the story along are well placed and impressive on their own.

But the intelligence of the show is its presumption in the interest of the watcher; therefore moving...
Brilliant!

As a big fan of the original stories and of the 80's Granada show with Jeremy Brett I was expecting to be disappointed by this show. I wasn't! Though it has been transplanted to modern day London it has kept the spirit of the books, and the casting is superb, especially the lead actor who plays the cold, calculated Holmes to perfection.

It's not an easy task to move this concept into a modern day setting given the advances in forensic science since the stories were first published, but focusing on Holmes' acute intelligence, observation and deduction it still gives that sense of awe that makes you feel like you're waking around with your eyes shut.

Don't hesitate... buy or rent this today if you love Holmes!

Did We Really Need Another Sherlock Holmes? A Jaded Fan Gives An Unequivocal "YES!"
I needed another adaptation featuring Sherlock Holmes about as much as I needed a full frontal lobotomy. Don't get me wrong--I love Holmes. As a boy, I read every story. Through the years, I've seen so many versions of Sherlock that I can't even begin to enumerate them all. I knew things looked bleak when everyone raved about last year's Guy Richie version and I found it only slightly amusing and greatly overproduced. I patently refused to accept this new BBC adaptation and refused to watch it--but I relented (I'm so weak willed) and now, hat in hand, I repent. This glorious updating is fast, smart, and riveting entertainment. What an idiot I would have been to miss it!

We love Daniel Tiger!!
I randomly came across a Daniel Tiger episode on PBS last fall, and we quickly fell in love with it. The oh-so-familiar theme song, characters, Trolly and ending credits song are all an echo of a parent's childhood.....good ol' Mister Roger's Neighborhood that I grew up with and loved. Each episode is full of great lessons, taught gently with fun & kindness & catchy songs, just as it was in the good ol' days. It's a show I feel good about having my son watch, we reference many of the lessons taught on the show as reminders for him when he gets frustrated about something. And he seems to understand it better from watching Daniel Tiger go through the same thing.

This DVD on Life's Lessons is wonderful, my son adores it and I do too. The potty episodes were the savior for my reluctant 4 yr old to finally give the potty a try, when I ran out of all other ideas. It also helped him understand & learn about needing to 'stop and go right away' too. The good morning/goodnight...

This DVD would get a 5 star rating if it had more content, but it only has the equivalent of 4 full shows on it, bummer. This show has actually helped my stubborn 3.5 year old want to try the potty and NEW foods!

Best video ever!

As a mother of an almost 4 year-old with autism, I cannot say enough good things about this video. The repetitive nature of the songs have really helped my son understand and build basic daily routines. The potty episide alone is worth the purchase. My son has been using the potty ever since (and flushing and washing). This is the first potty video that has ever captured his interest. Im a licensed professional counselor who specializes in counseling children. I've seen lots of videos. By far, any Daniel Tiger episode is great. I will probably by a second one to keep in the car.
