Riveting!
First of all, I would have never known about this film except that I happen to like Tindersticks who performed the haunting soundtrack to this equally haunting film. Just knowing that Tindersticks had something to do with it convinced me that Trouble Every Day was probably a worthwhile addition to my DVD collection. And indeed it is.

The first time I watched the film, I found it interesting in a strange way, but did not completely understand it. The clamshell was no help, the seller I bought it from here on amazon sent me a Chinese (bootleg?) edition that nevertheless played perfectly but provided no further information to those who cannot read Chinese. (The film is in English with a smattering of French thrown in. Subtitles are available.) So I watched without really knowing what to expect besides the tidbits I'd gleaned from reading the reviews.

The second time through, I understood it better. Leo Semenau, a renegade researcher into the workings of the human...
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, I COULD EAT YOU UP!
Love bites, literally. This utterly disturbing and obscure yet beautiful and tender film tells about people with a deviation - they can't love the way normal people do, they have this obsessive urge to devour their loved ones alive! Just like a female mantis or certain kind of female spiders devour their spouse right after copulating. For them love and sex are impossible without pain, blood and death.

Here we see a mentally-disturbed woman (played by Beatrice Dalle) who preys on men seduced be her sexuality, and a character of Vincent Gallo, who feels the need to bite, to gnaw and to suck blood of a girl he loves but he refrains himself (untill a certain moment) trying to be a reasonable man.

This stylish, wonderfully-paced and delicate movie shows the thin line between true love and sadism, between the desire to caress and to torment. It can have a huge effect on you because this lingering, viscous and sad film at times explodes with truly infernal and...
Far better than others would have you believe
My first impression was that of disappointment. Trouble Every Day is certainly a loosely presented film. The script is barebones and the acting at times positively atrocious. I extended all of this labor for a mediocre film? It is important to understand its context in contemporary French cinema, though. Trouble Every Day came out during the high reign of "French Extreme Cinema," and it follows many of the implicit guidelines of this sub-genre: Loose structure, shallow characters existing solely as thematic stand-ins, a violent current that strips the viewer of all comfort levels so that the film is viewed in the most vulnerable state. Trouble Every Day certainly delivers on all of these fronts. I had forgotten how graphically violent it was. I suppose because the violence is SO allegorical, I always construe the sequence as a sex scene rather than a killing. But after Core has consumed her victim, you certainly are stripped to a more weary state of observation. It is also a...

Review :
This is a cute romantic comedy from an era when movies were decent

The performances are excellent, and the premise, although unoriginal, is well played out. The problem, if any, is that the movie is a little short, hence the subpar character development. The streaming version here on Amazon contains a few short lacunae: bits and pieces of missing film, usually less than a second or so in duration, and only a few. It's just an old film, you know, that has not been preserved properly. But the audio is quite good, if a bit scratchy at times: again, not often and not too detracting from the entertainment. If you like these old B&W romcoms, and have a spare hour, then enjoy!

bad sound quality & so-so entertainment

It's really hard to figure out some of the movie because of the poor sound. The acting is average & the movie just so-so. The Father, who is the love interest is rather on the old side, old enough to be a bit on the creepy side. They are trying to get you to see a romance between a young educated, serious woman and a dead beat dad who's a boozing womanizer....not romantic.

Just Plain sweet to watch - fun old romantic movie :)

What a sweet, cute romance; one of those good old 'afternoon classic' movies :) One to sit down after the vacuuming and dishes are done, put your feet up and enjoy some beverage and this movie :) Also just before bed. Nothing strenuous, cute plot with a few twists for fun. Decently shown and you'll smile. (I think, if I am reading it correctly, the "amazon" description is a bit 'off/backwards' or something. Seems the annulment thing is mixed up there in the info.)And the folks in the movie - well, all they really had to do was annul the right one from the right one! Gives a good 'run-around' laugh!) And I'll let you figure that one out while watching this really cute, sweet movie with decent characters and some fun! Make sure you catch the wink in the end!

Surprisingly clever!

Very clever film. I was tricked! Enjoyed it very much. Written well, acted well. And I am not just saying this because my son is in it!!! I didn't expect much as this was a collaboration between professionals and UNLV students. Exceeded my expectations! Well done everyone! Especially Carlitos!!!

Back in action!!!

It was great to see Eric Roberts and Antonio Vargas back in action! Stealing Las Vegas is a fun and fast paced pic with a twist that you didn't bet on!

What a fun movie!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The plot was just perfect and it was very well acted. I thought it would have a low-budget feel to it but I was wrong... especially after I got into it and got lost in the story. For a truly entertaining movie, this one is a can't-miss!!!

Lillian and Dorothy Gish star in D.W. Griffith’s stirring love story set during the first World War. Though this film has come under fire for its brutal depiction of German soldiers, it’s still remarkable for its scale and scope, and its no-holds-barred look at war. Griffith shot most of the movie in Southern California, but also gained permission from the British government to film in highly restricted areas of England. Also, look for uncredited appearances by Noël Coward and Erich von Stroheim!

Another Gripping Griffith Masterwork!
This film really should be on DVD because it has all the traditional Griffith hallmarks of drama, suspense and hard-hitting messages as many of his other popular films already on DVD. Not only that, but Griffith also wrote "Hearts of the World", went to the British front to film parts of this war saga and received personal good wishes from the British Prime Minister regarding this film. All this is shown briefly in a prologue, and then we are introduced to a peaceful French village and its inhabitants, in particular two American families and a young couple. Then we see how cruelly lives and families are torn apart when German troops conquer the village while its men are fighting in the trenches. Griffith's message is, of course, to show the brutality and utter uselessness of war and its effects on the innocent citizen who becomes the victim. In other words, it's not a light, happy film for mere entertainment, but still very rewarding in other aspects.

In the cast are...
Forgettable Griffith photoplay
The weakest element of this presentation of HEARTS OF THE WORLD (1918) is the piano accompaniment which repeats a short phrase until the scene shifts, then a new little passage is beat to exhaustion. The best thing here is Dorothy Gish as an ebullient and perky street singer. Her sister Lillian has a more subdued role but still finds ways to clumsily overemote at times.

At one point, Lillian wanders a battlefield after the fighting stops. She finds her beaux (Robert Harron) lying near a trench, concludes he's been killed then lies down next to him, presumably for the night. The next day, stretcher bearers also encounter the prone Harron but realize that he's alive! Does this all strike you as incredibly unbelieveable? Yah, me too.

Let's reconsider that "weakest element" label, which simply must go to a very lame romantic plot. First that Bob would favor bland Lil to colorful Dot (who clearly has eyes for him), second that love conquers all (even mustard gas and...

I loved it and will use it in the classroom

Given the current crossroads in US/Cuban relations-this documentary sharing personal experiences of US students coming in contact with Cuba for the first time is more pertinent than ever. In an hour-long documentary filmmakers Bill and Esther Gentile accompany the journey of six American University students as they explore Cuba in a unique study-abroad experience dedicated to photojournalism. By the end of the semester each of the students produce their own photo essay on Cuba from underground rappers to the solidarity among Cubans in an exceptionally resilient neighborhood. Throughout the film the students grapple with the complex realities of Cuba in terms of race, religion, the US Embargo, official histories and prejudices while also working to capture it all through the lens of a camera. I loved it and will use it in the classroom!

Pedagogical Tool for Study Abroad in Cuba

Cuba is being spoken about in the Media almost every day and will remain in the spotlight for a long time as the US administration works out the details of a recently renewed diplomatic relationship after 54 years of being political enemies. This documentary is the perfect introduction to Cuba and also a wonderful testimony of the intellectual and personal growth that results from a Study Abroad experience. Through the eyes and the lens of six American students in a photojournalism class, the viewer can live, learn, and transform in Havana. The use of a meta-cinematic technique provides the perfect aesthetics entryway for this project while the off-screen narration builds a solid contextual framework that guides and gives meaning to what is being seen and experienced. Esther and Bill Gentile’s work present the students of Latin America and Cuba with a range of pedagogical possibilities.

An informative and compelling way of looking at Cuba
Through their eyes is a compelling character driven documentary about self-exploration, cultural immersion and challenge of beliefs, set in what used to be forbidden for most Americans, the mesmerizing country of Cuba. Through the lens of director and Professor Bill Gentile, we witness the journey of six American University students as they partake on an exciting four-month semester program in 2011 that will prove to be a life changing experience.
Both in the classroom and in the field, this very diverse group of individuals become exposed to the knowledge of historians, professors and photographers in Havana –and around the country- that bring them to challenge their own preconceptions. Politics, revolution, society and family structures, race and religion, are fully decoded only to be left with an understanding -as Chelsea Crandall, one of the students in the documentary puts it herself- that everything is layered and complex and it must be approached from that...
