Criminal Minds revolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. The Behavioral Analysis Unit's most prominent agent is David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), a founding member of the BAU, who returns to help the team solve new cases, while pursuing some unfinished business of his own. Each member brings his or her own area of expertise to the table as they pinpoint predators' motivations and identify their emotional triggers in the attempt to stop them.If watching a season of Criminal Minds simply makes you just want to watch more, that is a sign of success. Season six is a strong one that focuses on the BAU team's secrets. Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) has a story arc that is the highlight and gives you some of her international-spy back story, as well as a new secret for J.J. (A.J. Cook) and Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) to share. Episodes that focus on Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) are always the bright spot of Criminal Minds, and it's hard not to wish that his secret weren't explored more in depth, but perhaps the creators are leaving that arc for season seven. We also get the introduction of a new character, Ashley Seaver (Rachel Nichols), whose father just happens to be a serial killer. David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) is a bit in the background for season six, but maybe it's because he's been at the center of previous seasons. Shemar Moore's Derek Morgan is always nice to look at, but remains the least interesting character in the cast--even his "secret" isn't very compelling--though it is always good to see him interacting with Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), who has an appropriately lighthearted secret of her own. Overall, this is a strong season--and even if you're not a longtime fan, it's an easy show to just jump into. Extras include deleted scenes and some fun behind-the-scenes looks at the Paget Brewster arc, the season as a whole, and how various crime scenes are created. You may think your next-door neighbor is a serial killer after watching a whole season, but that's just a delightful side effect of Criminal Minds. --Paige Newman

Casting changes created havoc
First of all, I love this show. I've never missed an episode and re-watch all five previous seasons on a regular basis. That being said, season 6 was a bit lackluster. This is due to the major casting changes that took place during the summer. Both AJ Cook and Paget Brewster's contracts were cut, and during season 6 both were written off the show. While the writing in those episodes were top notch, the rest of the season left a bitter taste in your mouth. After episode 2 (appropriately titled JJ), JJ's absense left a gaping hole in the fabric of the BAU. It was almost as if the heart of the show had been ripped away, leaving writers, cast and fans scrambling. Just when we began to settle into the new JJ-less reality, in comes Agent Seaver, played by Rachel Nichols. This was a horrific decision. This is nothing against Ms. Nichols, who did the best she could with what she was given. However, fan response was not positive, as Ms. Nichols bears a striking resemblance to AJ Cook, who we...
Ever Better
CRIMINAL MINDS grows and grows and this season is an exceptional one. While if continues to bring us smart television, the secondary subplots that continue through this season, plot that focus on the lead actors and their private lives or personal involvement with some of the created characters takes a major role in this season. While some may find this a bit disconcerting - as though emphasis on the diagnosis and capture of the criminal minds disconnects the viewer form the point of direction of the story. But at least for this viewer these subplots make us identify more with the agony of coping with the types of criminals these people must deal with every day. The dialogue may at some points seem like a roundtable dissertation on aspects of abnormal psychology, passing from one character actor in the investigative team to the next, but the information they disclose in these sessions is fascinating and makes sense to the viewer. In its sixth season, "Criminal Minds" continues to be an outstanding police procedural about the agents of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. The show offers intense weekly drama as the agents track various serial killers and kidnappers.

A strength of the show is its superb ensemble cast, featuring Thomas Gibson as team leader Aaron Hotchner, Joe Montegna as veteran Special Agent David Rossi, Paget Brewster as Special Agent Emily Prentiss, Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid, Shemar Moore as Special Agent Derek Morgan, A.J.
