Based on the novel by Robert B. Parker, small town sheriff Jesse Stone tackles the mysterious murder of a teenage girl and the case of a battered wife while struggling with his alcoholism, his ex-wife and his disastrous love life. The teenage girl's murder leads him to a sex trafficking ring and into the higher society of Boston. The always dependable Tom Selleck returns as Robert B. Parker's small town police chief Jesse Stone in Death in Paradise, the made-for-TV sequel to Stone Cold, his 2005 debut as the character. Stone is a grittier, more human (and vulnerable) role than the one that made Selleck famous (playboy detective Thomas Magnum of Magnum, P.I.), but his tenacity and character flaws (a drinking problem and latent feelings for his ex-wife) seem a comfortable fit for the older Selleck. And the mystery itself--which surrounds the death of a young student whose connections to big-city crime--is crisp and convoluted (if not particularly novel), which provides Selleck with enough action and drama to please his longtime fans. William Devane and Gary Basaraba (Boomtown) are among the guest stars, while Viola Davis, Vito Rezza, and Kohl Sudduth return from Stone Cold as Selleck's police officers. Selleck also contributed to the script and co-produced along with director Robert Harmon, who helmed the other Stone films. --Paul Gaita

Review :
Third Jesse Stone movie makes it three for three
Both sensitively acted and directed, "Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise" is another winner in the "Jesse Stone" series of television films. Star Tom Selleck and director Robert Harmon must really be committed to this series, as every aspect of these productions are top notch.

Of course, one can air a minor complaint here and there. For example, like the previous entry, "Jesse Stone: Night Passage", this one ends a little too neatly and abruptly (just like in "Passage", everything is explained and resolved during a closing shoot-out), but that's only a small negative in an overall very good adaptation. I'm certainly onboard for "Jesse Stone: Sea Change", the fourth movie in the series (I always wait for the DVD releases of these films because I hate all the television commercials).

By the way, as these reviews are supposed to be "helpful", here's the order that I recommend that these stories should be watched:

1) Jesse Stone: Night Passage... This was...
Another Great Movie
Tom Selleck was born to play Jesse Stone. So much so that I can't imagine the character without Selleck. I immediately loved "Stone Cold" when I saw it premiere on TV and I have enjoyed watching Jesse solve crimes ever since.

Death In Paradise is a great little movie with an engaging storyline, believable dialogue (like always), solid production work, and a fantastic cast. I love the theme music for the series and the way that with just a couple simple piano themes so much mood can be conveyed. I've seen all 4 of the Jesse Stone movies and I love them all. I eagerly look forward to more!

I should note that I usually don't watch made for TV movies but I saw "Stone Cold" and I was hooked. It is refreshing when CGI and all manner of film trickery isn't employed and the filmmakers must rely on good old fashioned storytelling. The acting and the writing in this series is tremendous and needs no trickery to succeed.

Perfect actor plus great character equals TV magic
Tom Selleck IS Jesse Stone, a character created by the great mystery author Robert Parker. Selleck plays a burned out, alcoholic LA cop who takes a job in the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts as sheriff. "Death in Paradise" is a tale of domestic violence, mob intrigue and the poignant, obsessive quest by the emotionally damaged Stone for the killer of a young girl. This story line actually occurred in the Parker series prior to the novel that was the basis for CBS's fabulously successful "Stone Cold", Selleck's first outing as Jesse Stone. The screenwriters tweaked the plot of "Death in Paradise" a bit to make it a sequel to "Stone Cold" with excellent results. "Death in Paradise" features a powerhouse cameo by Steven Baldwin. In my opinion, Parker's Jesse Stone series is head and shoulders above the famous Spencer books. The Stone made-for-TV movies are quality productions with superb acting, beautiful cinematography and haunting music. Exceptional TV. Highly, highly...

Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver for movies by day and moonlights as a wheelman for criminals by night. Though a loner by nature, “Driver” can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband. After a heist goes wrong, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). Soon he realizes the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash and is forced to shift gears and go on the offense. Denmark's Nicolas Winding Refn makes an electrifying return to Hollywood filmmaking with this 1980s-style noir, right down to the synth score and neon-pink credits (he released his American debut, Fear X, in 2003). Ryan Gosling puts his implacable quality to good use as an L.A. stunt driver whose world crumbles when he falls for the wrong woman (Carey Mulligan). Irene is hardly a femme fatale, but her incarcerated husband, Standard (Oscar Isaac), is another story. When her car breaks down, Driver recommends the auto shop where he works with Shannon (Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston). The two start spending time together, but then Standard returns from prison. Driver keeps his distance until he discovers that Standard owes protection money. If he doesn't pay up, Irene and their son will suffer, so Driver offers to handle the wheel during a heist, a job with which he has more than a little experience, as the riveting opening sequence proves. While they plan their score with Blanche (Mad Men's Christina Hendricks), Shannon makes a deal with a couple of gangsters (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman), but when the plans collide: all hell breaks loose. In adapting James Sallis's novel, Refn builds to a bittersweet denouement, though the bursts of bloodshed will test even the hardiest of viewers. At its best, though, Drive is every bit as gripping as Reagan-era crime dramas like To Live and Die in L.A. and Thief. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

A film you'll probably either love or loath...just look at the reviews here
Before watching this film you have to understand that this is an arthouse flick masquerading as a Gone in 60 Seconds type of film & if you're expecting Gone in 60 seconds or a Michael Bay type of action film you'll be soooo disappointed...On the other hand if you're looking for a smart superbly crafted methodically paced/shot arthouse film you'll adore this! I love both stupid action films & foreign arthouse fair so this film is a match made in heaven & one of the best films ive ever seen even though ive seen dozens of films like this(every cliché in the genre book is presented here but thats beside the point)...This film is in love with itself...Cant give it enough stars...For the folks who hate "Drive" i understand & i forgive you...lol

An Art-House Actioner That Blends Indie Cool With Mainstream Appeal: Watch Out For Spoilers And Enjoy The Ride
In a year in which Ryan Gosling could do no wrong from romantic comedy (Crazy, Stupid, Love) to political drama (The Ides of March) to this art house actioner--"Drive" stands as the apex of his career-changing film streak. I have, for many years, declared Gosling perhaps the best actor of his generation. Ever since he burst onto the film scene in the controversial "The Believer," Gosling has eschewed being a mainstream "star." Heck, after "The Notebook," another actor might have taken a very different career path. But Gosling, despite a couple of disappointing forays into big budget Hollywood, has remained true to his indie roots. Until now, that is. This year, he seamlessly blended indie cool with mainstream appeal. Of course, in "Drive" he found the perfect filmmaker and artistic collaborator in Danish auteur Nicolas Winding Refn. The two began a very public bromance and have already embarked on their next film project (2012's Only God Forgives). Winding Refn is an ultra-cool...
Stunning; Easily One of the Best Films of 2011
With so many films still to come this year, it can be safely said that Drive is one of the best films of 2011. I am so ecstatic about this film that I'm struggling to write about it with any coherency, afraid that I may stray into ranting and raving about how great it is. Seeing a great film (hopefully) isn't a rarity, but seeing a great film of this caliber doesn't happen too often. Rarely have I left a theater so eager to turn around and watch the same movie again, my only fear being that it couldn't possibly be as good the second time. Drive shares commonalities with last year's The American with George Clooney. Both were wide releases, marketed as action films that completely defied the expectations of their audience. The biggest difference between the two is that people went to see The American expecting an action film and were treated to alienating, slow-moving, art house fare. Drive lacks the art-house pretentions of The American and those who see it expecting an action film...

When their best friend Alison mysteriously vanishes, four girls believe their secrets are safe forever. But when they begin to receive threatening messages from someone named "A," the truth may be only one text away. Filled with mystery, scandal, intrigue and nail-biting suspense, Pretty Little Liars is based on the best-selling book series for young adults from Alloy. Set one year after the disappearance of Alison, the manipulative and vindictive queen bee, the one-hour drama revolves around four 16-year-old girlfriends --Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily -- who have lost touch with one another until each begins to receive mysterious messages suggesting that Alison is watching them and knows their most private details they are desperate to keep hidden. Suddenly, living in their picturesque suburban community is far from perfect as secrets, lies and betrayals threaten everything they hold dear. Even after Alison's body is discovered, the messages don't stop....A kind of a Desperate Housewives for teens, Pretty Little Liars follows four high-school girls as they struggle to deal with the unthinkable tragedy of the disappearance and probable murder of their best friend Alison. There's also the usual angst that comes with stress over school exams and getting into a good college, teen romance and sexuality, navigating the high-school rumor mill and popularity chain, small-town nosiness, and rocky parent and adult relationships. Rosewood is a little town in Pennsylvania with a troublemaker on the loose and a bunch of buried secrets. A year after Alison's death, BFFs Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily have grown apart, but are forced back together by the discovery of Alison's body, her funeral, and threatening texts and notes that start appearing from a mysterious person who signs the notes "A" and seems to know things that only Alison could possibly know. Each of the girls is desperately hiding something from the others, their parents, and the police, and A seems to know exactly how to manipulate them and stir up trouble. The road to unraveling just what happened to Alison is full of twists, turns, and plenty of suspense. The girls' journey reveals a lot about just what kind of person each of them really is, and about their own sense of self-worth--and how one powerful person can control the lives of many. Based on the bestselling book series by Sara Shepard, the TV show initially views kind of like a horror film mashed together with a chick-clique flick. But as the mystery unfolds and the characters are fleshed out, teen viewers will find themselves hooked not only by the suspense and the mystery, but also by the sense that in some essential way, these girls are just like them or someone they know. Like most teenagers, the characters in Pretty Little Liars are often vain, immature, and maddeningly illogical, but they're also vulnerable, complex, and deceptively captivating. Review :
Surprisingly Amazing
I'll admit that my first reaction to hearing about this show was mild distaste. It sounded like just another trashy teen show. My roommate watched it, though, and I saw bits and pieces now and then, but not enough to understand what was happening. After only a few weeks of just watching a minute or two of each episode, I was hooked.

Sure, when you try to explain the premise to someone, it sounds a bit idiotic: four girls trying to solve a friend's murder while being stalked. What's almost impossible to describe is the utterly addictive quality this show has.

The four girls grow on you quickly. They all have their secrets, their faults, their moments of stupidity, their moments of brilliance. Most importantly is that eventually these girls become beloved to the audience. Hanna, who has to deal with her father's departure, but she's also the most badass of the girls. Aria, whose student/teacher relationship is the center of the romantic tension, but her love for...
More than just pretty girls
I originally started watching this show because I love Ashley Benson and was excited to see her working on another project. While that reason would keep me tuning in every week if nothing else did, that is hardly the case. There is suspense, romance, drama, and even some comedy. There were moments where you'd feel your eyes water or moments where you'd be stomping your feet in rage because you couldn't believe that character did that. This show is definitely a winner and I believe that if anyone, even if they weren't that interested, just sat down and watched a couple of episodes, they'd be hooked too. It's so good that I planned my school schedule so that it wouldn't conflict with the airings. Unlike other ABC Family shows, this is one that even adults could enjoy.

PG13 but great for ALL age groups
I love this show, it is one of those shows that keeps me recording it on my DVR or rushing home just to watch it the night a new episode comes out. You may think that this is aimed towards the high school or younger generation, but really, I think it's appropriate for all age groups-- granted it's PG13, so maybe no one younger than middle school would get this show. But, I'm in college and it still kept me interested.

The plot is pretty different than what they have on TV now a days, you have definitely not watched another show like it. From the fashion, to the actors/actresses, you will find something to love-- which will definitely keep you flying through the whole season. And I'm even going to buy the complete first season even after watching the whole thing on TV.

I loved it so much that I even went out and bought the entire series of books because I wanted to find out what happens right away-- warning though, the TV version is a bit different on many...

Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad
This review is for the Blue Ray collection. Picture: Pristine. Sound: Great. Movies: I & II - Grand Entertainment. Universal successfully resuscitated it's venerable monster genre and transformed it into bigtime Tentpole event movies and produced two very good action adventure rides to take with the kids. III - Phoned in. Brendan collects huge paycheck and goes home. Rachel wisely stays away in the first place. Kid being groomed to carry on - the poor man's Shia (and I didn't think much of him either). Jet Li - stony and morose. Story is flat. Use of China as a backdrop - secondary and poorly executed (nothing new or breathtaking here). This truly is the sin - we're actually IN China for heaven's sake and there is no grand vista, no expansive shots to dazzle us with the landscape. In watching the nightclub scenes I kept expecting Kate Capshaw to step out and start singing - it's that derivative. Everything else is CGI. No overall quality to raise it to the level of the...
MUMMY: Trilogy.
I love the Mummy movies. A trilogy box set was perfect....as long as they don't make a fourth. After watching ' The Mummy; Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. they better not. The action was great in the aforementioned movie, the chemistry was not as good, and some of the acting weak....but hey it was still fun. If you love the Mummy movies and don't have them all, this is a great deal for the price.

Great deal for these movies - works in the US
This set appears to have been intended for sale in Europe - one of the ratings labels on the cover appears to be for the Irish Film Censor's Office. Being that I live in the US and was aware of the regional coding issues present with a lot of DVDs, I was a little nervous about buying this. I read up online about region coding on Blu-Rays and apparently it's used a lot less than in the DVD era and one source indicated that Universal doesn't region code their Blu-Rays at all.

I decided to try this set out due to the price difference between this version and the US labeled one. I use a PS3 for a Blu-Ray player and the discs work perfectly. I have a TON of language choices - I'll only use one, but that may be helpful to others out there. Other than that, absolutely no difference as far as the movie content and special features.

I'm glad I took the gamble.

A film which every man of every faith can embrace!
It seems like the only way anyone hears about this movie, its either from fanatic word of mouth or from seeing it sitting in Blockbusters. Thats a shame, because this first outing by director Troy Duffy is an extremely cool film that deserves all the attention it can get.
Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus play two good ole Irish Catholic boys in Boston, who one day get sick of the corruption in the city and begin a bloody crusade to wipe it out. Willem DaFoe plays the FBI agent hot on their trail, who is torn between bringing the mysterious vigilantes to justice, or joining their crusade.
The film is, simply put, cool. Its one of the only movies that actually make going to church look cool. Don't be fooled by the description, however; this is not an action movie. Do not expect blazing gun battles with crazy angles and MTV like editing. This is a film about morality, doing what one thinks is right, and having codes of honour. It's about all those things, and how close...
A Sleeper Fan's Opinion
If you are a big fan of sleeper films, then this should be #1 on your movies to rent list. After you watch it, it will be #1 on your movies to buy list. This movie will really toy with you from the very beginning. As an action movie, you see the results of the action sequence before you see the actual scene. By doing this, the director keeps you on the edge of your seat, dying to know what happened and how. After the first sequence like this, you will be glued to your TV. Personally, I enjoyed this style of storytelling immensly because it was very fresh. This movie has an original plot, great character development, fantastic dialogue and several extremely humorous scenes. Oh, and great action too. For the DVD fan, there are great special features. The deleted scenes are some of the best I have ever seen, and I wish that they had been left in the theatrical release. I can only hope for a directors cut somewhere down the line. Willem Dafoe and Sean Patrick Flannery put forth a...
Awesome film, disappointing dvd.
I love the Boondock Saints. It's funny and action packed all at once. Naturally, when the special edition came out I jumped right on it. But, upon viewing it I realized the only thing extended in the "unrated" edition were the fight scenes. I figured they'd put in all the "deleted scenes" from the special features. I was very disappointed in that. I can't see a glaring difference between the rated/unrated editions. I'm just as happy with my first version, the only thing they seem to make better is the box the dvd comes in.

Delivering the Good Stuff....
"Criminal Minds" returned for its seventh season in 2011-2012, with a fresh set of disturbing and violent crimes to be solved by the FBI's elite Bahavorial Analysis Unit (BAU) and its ecclectic collection of agents. A highlight of the season was the return of profiler Emily Prentiss "from the dead", with emotional ramifications for the whole team.

The show continues to thrive on its crime-of-the-week format, as the BAU races the clock to identify and stop a violent killer or killers while saving victims. Clever plots continue to take unusual twists and turns. As in past seasons, the spotlight shifts from episode to episode among the actors in an outstanding ensemble cast, giving each a chance to lead on a case. This season has featured increased insight into the personal lives of the characters. One member of the team gets a girlfriend, another gets a marriage proposal, a third is haunted by an old case, and a fourth decides to leave the BAU. A senior supervisor goes...

And I'm not sure about Season 6 or the Season 5 DVD, but I know Season 7 does have subtitles. Oddly enough, it doesn't have closed captioning. While I was going through the DVDs to find the exact special features I was starting to get let down by the lack of commentaries showing up. I was hoping it wasn't a typo, but we do get two episodes with commentary. Weirdly, "It Takes a Village" and "Hit/Run" I sure would have gotten a commentary, but alas, no. This show gets better every season!!!!
I love this show. It's just something about it, which keeps me tuning in every Wednesday night for a brand new episode. Due to the subject at hand it's NOT the show for everybody, but if you are a fan of psychological thriller's this is the show for you.

"Criminal Minds" will challenge your mind every episode. It shows what it is like to get into the mind of serial killers, and with every episode we get drama, mystery, and action. These cases are twisted and eerie, and most of the time what you think is going happen, doesn't. Every show literally has me on the edge of my seat.

Pros: 1.The writing is superb
2. Every character is well defined
3. Great acting
4. Compelling cases

Cons: 1.There is none really, unless you count the season ending cliffhanger.

Non-Stop Violence And Excitement: Not Much Plot, But A Must-See For Action Movie Ethusiasts
"The Raid: Redemption" is a movie that pulls no punches. Or maybe that's all it pulls. It's been a long while since I've seen a film so relentless, so brutal, and so unapologetically violent. Writer/Director Gareth Evans' film is a non-stop barrage of fisticuffs, shoot-outs, and explosions. It is a well choreographed exercise in action movie mayhem and it succeeds wholly in its intentions. If you want a nuanced screenplay, in-depth characterizations, or an intricate plot--"The Raid: Redemption" might not be your first choice of entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I like and expect those things too. But if you give yourself over to the visceral experience of this down and dirty movie, it provides more thrills and excitement than a slate of Hollywood blockbusters. If you like action films, this micro-budgeted indie flick shot in Indonesia (yes, it's subtitled but, believe me, the dialogue is relatively minimal) has got to be on the top of your must-see list.

Evans...
"You may have noticed we have some guests trawling the halls today..."
Writer/Director Gareth Evans learned his lesson from MERANTAU, his earlier collaboration with former truck driver and now budding martial arts star Iko Uwais. MERANTAU exhibited some first-rate martial arts mayhem but was crippled by Evans' meandering pace and flat explorations of the lead character's culture. In THE RAID: REDEMPTION (or "Serbuan maut") Evans sets us up with everything we need to know about premise and characters within the first five minutes. From then on, brother, it's best that you grab hold of something. Nerves will be jangled and eyes glued and behinds parked precariously on the edges of seats.

Sub-text and this film go together like Merchant Ivory cinema and Uwe Boll. And yet, sometimes, there's something to be said for guerrilla filmmaking. THE RAID: REDEMPTION is strictly no frills, production values-wise. But Gareth Evans makes the most of his shoestring budget and minimalist plot. He turns the focus on the action sequences. You know how, in...
Must-see for action/martial arts movie fans
Here's some fun math for you...This entire film cost as much to make as ~52 seconds of Transformers 3. I'll say that again. For the same price, you could make either a) the best action flick since John Woo's Hong Kong masterpieces, or b) 52 seconds of bloated PG13 mediocrity. Stunning.

In any case, the second collaboration between Gareth Evans, Iko Uwais, and Yayan Ruhian demonstrates just how far you can take the form. The plot is simple and straightforward, and set up with incredible economy. A few carefully edited scenes and a smattering of dialogue puts all the pieces in place, then it's 90-odd minutes of exquisitely crafted mayhem.

Technically, the film is very well shot. The camera work is both fluid and at times surprisingly creative (they pull off a great drop-down shot early on using one camera but two cameramen). Most importantly though, it's choreographed into the action itself. The camera is the 3rd (or 4th or 10th) player in the fight scenes,...

Review :
There is an awful lot to like here.
As someone who purchased the entire nine seasons of "Matlock" separately about a year ago I can heartily recommend this brand new 2015 package to anyone who enjoys this type of family-oriented entertainment. It took me about six months but I got the opportunity to enjoy once again every single episode of this highly entertaining series. What I enjoyed most about this series is that there is a minimum of violence and very little in the way of sexual innuendo. This is definitely a series that grandparents can enjoy with their grandkids. I found that as the series wore on the quality of the shows did not diminish one little bit.....even in the ninth and final season. Andy Griffith obviously enjoyed the role and it was fun to see the great Don Knotts guest star in a number of episodes. There is a touch of humor in a lot of these shows and every once in a while some great music. If you are a fan of classic TV, courtroom dramas, or family-friendly shows then I highly...
Happy with my purchase!!
I love this series!!!! I was hesitant to purchase based on several other reviews about quality, I was especially afraid I would not be able to hear shows since I do have a slight hearing problem. I have a 32" flat screen TV and a 2yr old bluray/ dvd player that are both pretty basic with no fancy upgrades. I'm almost finished with first season and have been VERY happy. Do I wish they would have cleaned up the video a bit for this new set release?? YES... Am I still enjoying this series?? ABSOLUTELY... I have no problem with audio from my regular TV speakers. I am very happy with my purchase so far and would definitely recommend this set.

MATLOCK - Complete Episode List with a Selection Of Notable Guest Stars
Andy Griffith is best known for his starring roles in two very popular television series, The Andy Griffith Show (1960) and Matlock (1986). Matlock is an American television legal drama, starring Andy Griffith whose hair has now turned much grayer than when he was sheriff of Mayberry. And Don Knotts has a semi regular role, starting in season 3 through season 6, usually he's wearing a cap to cover his now balding pate - this was before being bald was in style.

The sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie. In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” a protective mother (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) and her 9-year-old twin sons (real-life brothers Robert and Dartanian Sloan) find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity.

Review :
One of the few sequels that may actually be better than the original
Nine Things About the Film "Sinister 2"

1. This feverish experience is one of the best horror films of the year.

2. You don't have to see the first movie to see this one, but I highly recommend it. The context of the film won't make a lot of sense without it. And part of the intensity of this movie is because you know the secret, but the people in the movie don't.

3. It follows Deputy So & So after the events of the first film. Obsessed with stopping Bughuul, he comes across a woman with two sons who have unkowingly attracted the pagan deity. While the mother deals with her ex-husband, dead kids appear to one of the boys and show him snuff films in the basement (if the snuff films in the first movie bothered you, you should know that these are worse).

4. As with the first movie, the use of sound in this film is an experience in itself, expertly cutting together music and effects to heighten the hallucinatory nature of what's going...
Here There Be Scary $h!t
Creepy is the best and most appropriate word to describe this movie. I give it 4 stars not because it is an amazing movie, but because it is an amazing movie if you are sitting with the right person. My movie date gets very frightened and that makes this a blast! I have to admit a couple scenes made me jump as well. It is hard to get good movies in this genre, and so much is rehashed and repetitive. Not that different in this movie, but it is executed well, and it works.

Setting is excellent, a farm in Illinois, where I wouldn't dare set foot, and the two young actors as the twins do an admirable job.

Cast is decent:: James Ransone, Shannyn Sossamon, Robert Sloan, Dartanian Sloan and Lea Coco - but you will notice the missing star power of an Ethan Hawke.
Director: Ciaran Foy

Worth seeing, make sure to see it late at night.

A Decent Sequel, But Not Outstanding
I felt that this was a decent movie. It gave a little more insight as
to what was going on with those videotapes from part one and more
insight as to what the "Sinister" entity is all about. But if
definitely had some very slow parts too. Around the middle, I found
myself wanting the movie to pick up its pace. . I say that if you are a
huge fan of "Sinister" 1 like me, this may be an interesting addition
to the franchise, but if you are new to it or looking for something
really scary, you may want to rent this movie before buying it... The movie
was not that bad. It had some disturbing scenes, but I can't say that
it was awesome either.

best show so of course the Never Been Clever morons cancelled it
this is my favorite tv show & it just boggles my mind that the imbeciles at NBC/Comcast are cancelling it, especially as it is the highest rated show ever on what used to be SCI FI channel. you can actually watch it with your kids (about 8 & up; younger ones might not understand it): nothing objectionable---no sex, no violence, no language. AND, KIDS CAN ACTUALLY LEARN HISTORY FROM IT IN A REALLY FUN WAY!!!! The actors are terrific and it's lots of fun, with references to all sorts of literature, too, and fantasy/sci fi (Star trek, wizard of oz). the dialogue is snappy. what could be better????? so they replace it with reality tv and wrestling???? how is that science fiction??

"The show most go on"
Cynthia and I have watched all the seasons and episodes of Warehouse 13 and rank it at the top of our favs along with Eureka, Once Upon A TIme, Murdoch, and Grimm. Whatever the reasons for ending the show at this time, we think the show must go on. Perhaps a movie? Or a prequel (Warehouse 12) or a follow-on series (Warehouse 14)? Or possibly a spin-off (Dock 42 or 54)? We're glad that the cast and crew of the series felt the same way about the show as we did. Cynthia and I are hoping that the show will go on after a year off, like Murdoch did (?). We hope many others will write in as we have to encourage the show's continuance. Thank you for so many great characters and moments, Mark & Cynthia

Rating on overall series.....
I'm not sure how anyone can rate these episodes or this last season already, since these episodes haven't even been broadcast yet, but I have high hopes for this last season of what has been to me a fun and entertaining show. I am disappointed that Syfy decided to cancel yet another excellent show, most likely to be replaced with more of their WWF or reality drivel, but I am looking forward to this fifth season of Warehouse 13. I'm sure they will go out in style.

CSI: CYBER stars Academy, Emmy, and Golden Globe Awards winner Patricia Arquette in a drama inspired by the advanced technological work of real-life Cyber Psychologist Mary Aiken. Special Agent Avery Ryan heads the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI, a unit at the forefront of solving illegal activities that start in the mind, live online, and play out in the real world. While other agents search for criminals in dark homes and alleys, Ryan and her team search the 'dark net,' a place deep in the bowels of the Web where criminals are anonymous, money is untraceable and where everything is for sale with just a keystroke.

Excellent new cyber crime series
This was a mid-season replacement series and we decided to watch it based on the CSI related theme. Added to that, Patricia Arquette and James Van Der Beek starring in the show really piqued my interest.

The premise of the show is that this is a special FBI team dedicated to solving cyber crimes. Special Agent Avery Ryan (Patricia Arquette) heads the crew. She is a former victim of cyber crime involving the theft of information and one of her patients (in her former career) was murdered because of the stolen information. After that experience, she changed professions, joined the FBI, and has dedicated herself to solving and preventing similar crimes. Her group is made up of: Elijah Mundo (James Van Der Beek), a straight arrow FBI agent with an interesting and varied set of CSI skills; Brody Nelson (Shad Moss) a former black hat cyber criminal who is being given the chance to work with the team and escape his criminal past; Daniel Krumitz (Charley Koontz) an amazingly...

Review :
Murdoch Mysteries
This is an AWESOME series! Canadian TV has produced a wonderful murder mystery series that takes place in Victorian times, presenting social issues and lots and lots of early scientific methods for solving crimes. The actors in this series account for one of the best ensemble casts that I've ever seen. Our entire family views this series, over and over again, and we sincerely hope that it does not see cancellation for many years to come!

Awesome & fun TV series
I was introduced to Murdoch Mysteries through my Amazon Prime account. I absolutely fell in love with the series and its characters. Set in Victorian Canada, the TV show revolves around 4 main characters and their ability to work together to solve murder mysteries. The program is a little whimsical, a bit humorous, and of course has a little romance, too; something for the whole family to enjoy. I highly recommend it!

One of the Best
Murdoch Mysteries is a very enjoyable 'period piece' Television series (1890's Toronto). There's a little history, a little humor, a little romance, a little scientific discovery (late 1890's style) and lots of Mystery. Yannick Bisson (Detective Murdoch), Thomas Craig (his boss, Inspector Brackenreid), Jonny Harris (Murdoch's assistant and partner Constable George Crabtree) and Hélène Joy ( the coroner and love interest... Doctor Julia Ogden) are endearing characters and perfectly cast for their rolls.

We came rather late to this series.... and have found 'Murdoch' to be one of the 'best.' It's right up there with Poirot, Midsomer, Foyle's War, to name just a few. We've typically had to head across the Atlantic to BBC/ITV for good mystery TV. Who knew that our neighbors to the North were doing such a stellar job with this series? Highly recommended...

Another great performance from Charlize Theron in DARK PLACES that's well worth a watch...
DARK PLACES is a drama/mystery about a poor Kansas City family who were murdered 30 years ago. There were two remaining members of that family; one was a girl (out of 3 girls and 1 boy) named "Libby Day" and the other was her brother, "Ben Day" who is serving a life sentence in prison for the murders.
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone because this movie is definitely worth a watch, in my opinion. As usual, Charlize Theron gives an outstanding performance as "Libby" who was a child when her family was killed and is now, 30 years later, still pretty directionless and immature.
There are lots of little sub-plots which also makes this film engrossing and the other actors in this movie play their parts to perfection, as well. This is an extremely well done film and I enjoyed watching every minute of it! I was really surprised that I'd never even heard of this movie. The only reason I didn't give this movie 5 stars is because I felt, at times, that...
Great movie. Would watch again. Twists and turns.
This was a good movie. I had never heard of it till I came a cross it while looking at new releases. I love horror or thrillers. This is a psychological thriller. I liked it very much. It is about a woman who's family was killed when she w as a child. She was the key witness against her brother who was jailed for the crimes. She has lead a hard life and gets roped in to investigating the crime. This movie has many twists and turns. Some are expected some are not. I thought Charliez Theron was a powerhouse like always. I would call it a mystery type movie. Those are hard to get right now days because most twist people have seen coming over and over. I think you'll like this if you give it a try.

Excellent
This movie is based on my least favorite Gillian Flynn novel, so my expectations were lower than for Gone Girl. Turns out this is every bit as good a movie as Gone Girl, if not better. The acting is incredible, not only by Charlize Theron, but by the entire cast. Because the book flashes back and forth in time and among points of view, I worried that the movie would not do the book justice and might make an already complicated story incomprehensible. However, the screenwriter handled this complex story beautifully. Even though I knew the outcome ahead of time, I was enthralled- glued to the screen by the riveting story and performances. Charlize Theron had my total sympathy as Libby Day, whereas I found Libby very hard to like when I read the book. The movie actually has me rethinking my original evaluation of the novel, and I think I’ll reread.

Reaching for a new level...
The air might have gone out of this series after forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI special agent Seeley Booth finally became a couple with a child last season. Happily for fans, the show has found new ways to keep things interesting and fun.

The end of the seventh season of "Bones" left Bones on the run with her infant child after being framed for murder by the highly skilled serial killer Christopher Pelant. The opening of the eighth season finds Booth and her colleagues at the Jeffersonian Institute trying to clear her name. Fortunately for the series, they succeed, although Pelant eludes justice to pose a future threat.

This eighth season continues to feature crime-of-the-week murders for Bones, Booth, and the Jeffersonian lab rats to solve through clever forensics and Booth's old-fashioned police work. One of the most interesting episodes is told through the eyes of the murder victim, with the assistance of a psychic (a...
Still going strong
Chances are by now you know how you feel about Bones. If you have liked the show up to this point you will likely still enjoy this season. If you don't like it, this season will not do anything to change your mind because it really follows the same formula as it has the past few years.

I think the stories are still compelling and interesting enough to keep the show fun to watch. It does a good job of blending the case of the week stories with the ongoing story arcs. The main antagonist this season continues to be Pelant. The storyline from the last season which resulted in the end of the season cliffhanger is resolved quickly in Season 8. Pelant however keeps coming back throughout the season to make the lives of the team hell.

The show has kept the rotating interns that stemmed from the one story line from the show whose outcome I did not like, and that was having Zach written off the show. The show does a good job of actually giving them more to do that just...
The dreaded never-ending storyline
One of the things I liked most about "Bones" was that each season was pretty much self-contained. There were story arcs that spanned multiple episodes through the season (such as the Gravedigger and Gormogon storylines) and ongoing plot developments (such as the truth about Brennan's parents and Hodgins' and Angela's developing relationship) but by and large each season wrapped up the loose ends by or in the season finale. Unfortunately, that pattern has been broken with the introduction of Christopher Pelant. While I realize that the forensics team members require a challenge equal to their considerable abilities to keep the show interesting, some of Pelant's technological feats are, quite frankly, ridiculous and highly contrived. That, however, isn't the true problem with the concept. Pelant (much as Red John in "The Mentalist") is a loose end whom the writers have allowed to remain one step ahead of the protagonists and can continue to do so indefinitely. Eventually it gets tedious...

Review :
Universal did a rather poor job with this Bluray release.
While everyone else has been waiting for AVATAR or LOTR (and yes I bought both of those and LOVE them), I've been holding my breath to watch DUNE in all its highdef glory. After watching this bluray disc, I feel like I've seen half of the film in HD and the other half in fair quality SD. I THINK I know what I'm talking about here . . . I saw this film 3 times in the original theatrical run, then bought the video tape in the Beta format, shortly thereafter replacing it with my first VHS copy of the film. Next came the LaserDisc (sadly a pan and scan version) then another vhs (from TV) of the "extended version". Shortly before the death of VHS, Universal released a Widescreen VHS version and then came the first, non-anamorphic DVD. Most recent is the steelbook anamorphic DVD release that also included the extended version as well as deleted scenes and short documentary materials. I still own them all and I'm happy to say that this new bluray release is the best DUNE has ever looked in a...
Why does it say David Lynch then Alan Smithee? I'll tell ya!
A beginning is a very delicate time. In 1984, the long awaited film version of Frank Herbert's epic novel Dune came to the silver screen. What happened next? The worst box office disaster in history! Sad to say it, but mostly everyone who saw Dune hated it except for the few who actually read the book! I've always loved this movie but if I ever said that in public I was usually beaten with large rocks or a baseball bat. This review isn't really about the story of the film or it's direction. Its about the confusing truth of their actually being two editions of the 1984 film version of dune.
Now here is where the entire true purpose to this review comes in. Many may wonder, "why was I watching this on Sci-Fi channel and the director was Alan Smithee instead of David Lynch?" Well little Jimmy, the answer is complicated. David Lynch knew when he made Dune he was in trouble and cut the film down incredibly to make it fit the desired time limit. Lynch was slightly pleased with this cut...
A long, long wait...and now that it's here...
...it makes me wonder what was taking them so long. I can only imagine that it was a legal issue.

Now that's it here, however, I am horrendously disappointed. The previous review claims that it's "remastered?" Well, the sound may have been "mixed" into a 5.1 sound field (and badly done at that), but the picture is still in the same horrific condition as the ORIGINAL DVD release.

You don't have to look any further then the Guild ship landing at the beginning of the movie. Look at the lower left-hand side of the screen and watch the inexplicable shadow artifacts that keep fading in and out...as if the original film were compromised. No, it's not one of those "oh, you really have to look close" things, either; it's actually annoyingly, painfully obvious!!

You don't even have to go THAT far to look for transfer problems!! Look at the Universal logo on the opening reel and "oooooo" and "ahhhhhh" at the dust specks and scratches on the film...

Review :
Scary good movie, well worth the time..
I thought this film was great! Well written, the actors were all spot-on as their characters AND the characters were all well developed, so you could care about what really happened in this "scary good" movie. I don't want to spoil any of the plot, but as a mother, Diane Lane was creepy in her depiction of the mother ashamed of her daughter's looks, while all the while, being more than just a little loving and caring to the character of "Ronnie", played by Dakota Fanning. I definitely think this a story worth watching, especially in light of just way too many crimes that are being committed by minors in our present day society.

Great Ensemble Cast!
(Every Secret Thing) has an amazing ensemble cast Starring Diane Lane...Elizabeth Banks...Common...Dakota Fanning and Nate Parker. All the acting was amazing by the supporting cast as well.

The story revolves around two young women who were sent to prison as young girls for kidnapping and killing a biracial baby girl. The girls (Dakota Fanning) and (Danielle Macdonald) are released after Seven years and soon after their release, a Three year old biracial girl goes missing from a furniture store while her parents aren't looking.

Detective Nancy Porter (Elizabeth Banks) who found the dead infant reluctantly takes on this missing child case and of course these girls are the main suspects! As the movie goes on, as each girl is interrogated we see each girl's version of what happened the day the baby was kidnapped and and eventually killed.

Diane Lane is perfect as the mother of one of the notorious girls as the role requires almost bi polar type behavior...
Very powerful and suspenseful. Diane Lane is mesmerizing. Great thriller.
Very powerful, atmospheric and suspenseful film. If you like thrillers like 'Prisoners', 'Mystic River', 'Gone Girl', 'Gone Baby Gone' etc you will love this - although this film is also very original. The cast are amazing and all deliver superb performances with Oscar nominee Diane Lane being the standout. Very recommended.

Walt (two-time Emmy® award winner* Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) are in way over their heads in Breaking Bad: The Complete Second Season. As their partnership reaches new heights, Walt and Jesse begin to see the extremes of the drug trafficking business. Their trademark blue meth is making them rich, but it's getting more difficult than ever for Walt to conceal the truth from his wife Skyler (Anna Gunn), his son Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte), and his DEA agent brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris). Walt struggles to maintain control of his life as he contends with vicious drug dealers, an increasingly distant wife and son, the impending birth of his daughter, and a strung-out business partner – all while battling terminal lung cancer. Breaking Bad: The Complete Second Season includes cinematography from Michael Slovis as well as Emmy® award-winning** editing from Lynne Willingham, A.C.E. Executive Produced by Vince Gilligan and Mark Johnson. As Breaking Bad's first year concluded, chemistry teacher Walt (two-time Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston) and his meth-making partner, Jesse (Emmy-nominee Aaron Paul), hooked up with drug kingpin Tuco (Raymond Cruz), and the money started to roll in. They expected some degree of danger--but not a homicidal maniac. When DEA agent Hank (Dean Norris) starts to close in on Tuco, he kidnaps the duo, who eventually escape, but the experience creates a host of new complications, leaving Jesse temporarily homeless and driving a wedge between Walt and his pregnant wife, Skyler (Anna Gunn), and their 15-year-old son, Walt Jr. (R. J. Mitte). In his commentary, creator Vince Gilligan explains that the "chickens come home to roost" in season 2 as Walt's criminal activity catches up with him. In effect, he lives out the psychological version of The Fly, with his double life merging into one, such that he starts to become as ruthless as Tuco. Hank, meanwhile, gets a promotion that expands his jurisdiction to El Paso, while Skyler takes an accounting job that could cause her to "break bad" in season 3.

If this AMC hit lacked a sense of humor, it just might be too hard to take. Aside from Walt's incurable illness and Hank's post-traumatic stress disorder, there's a head crushing, a shooting, an explosion, and an overdose. Though Walt and Skyler get few humorous moments, Jesse, Hank, and ambulance-chasing attorney Saul (Mr. Show's Bob Odenkirk, an inspired addition) make the most of theirs. Jesse even gets a girlfriend (Krysten Ritter), who comes with a wary father (John de Lancie)--but there's still more shadow than light (not counting those panoramic desert shots). Strong stuff, but it's impossible to look away. Extensive extras include commentaries, deleted scenes, and featurettes on every episode. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Review :
As Good as The Shield and The Sopranos
I'll try to keep this short. If you've read the other reviews, you know the premise of the show. It has received many accolades and some awards. But you know what, there are many really good shows out there now, and it can be hard to keep up with all of them. So if you are still undecided as to whether this show is worth an investment of your time and money, I hope this helps.

If are an avid fan of the Sopranos and The Shield, you will love Breaking Bad.

Do you remember how both of those shows would, at their very best, leave you staring at the screen, with your heart pounding, saying to yourself "Holy S---"? Well, there are moments like that in Breaking Bad. Like the Sopranos, it effectively mixes dark comedy and violence. Like The Shield, it has episodes and plotlines that are incredibly intense. And like both of those shows, it features a protagonist leading a double life. The performance of Bryan Cranston, like those of James Gandolfini and Micheal...
Surpasses the first in every way
Now that everything was established in the short first season (writers strike) the second season gets things really going.

I will not spoil but I will say this show is now falling into history. It's one of the greatest shows of all time and will most likely only get better from here.

The best thing on TV these days
I watch A LOT of TV and I can honestly say there has never been a show that was so riveting and so gripping from beginning to end as Breaking Bad. This show is a masterpiece through and through.

During the first season, we come to see how Bryan Cranston's character (acted brilliantly, by the way) could not be any more desperate. And just when you think things couldn't get more low, in comes season two with more problems and more desperation.

I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen this season, but my God, if you haven't seen it, get this DVD collection it will be so worth your time.

Falling Skies: The Complete Second Season (DVD)

The mystery deepens for the remaining survivors of the massive alien invasion as Falling Skies returns for its second season with mysterious new creatures. Three months have passed since former college professor, father of three and unlikely leader of the civilian resistance group Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) went willingly with the aliens on one of their ships to free his son and learn their plans. Nobody has seen or heard anything from him during this time, and his absence has taken its toll on his sons. Ben and his older brother, Hal, have stepped up as fighters but quickly clash as they both seek to secure their roles as leaders in their father's absence. Many lives have been lost since Tom left, but the survivors of the 2nd Mass still struggle on with courage and resilience. In the first season, our heroes coped with the trauma of losing their world; in this season, they take action and fight back!

Another great Sci-Fi show... Lets just hope they don't cancel it!
Falling Skies is good Sci-Fi series that depicts an end of the world alien invasion scenario. Who cares if the acting or the special effects are not the "best to date" (which it is really not that bad). Its the content and story that matter the most in my opinion and this show has it. Besides, its also very pleasing to see some new actors on T.V. rather than the same old Hollywood mainstream.

Worthwhile
This is one of the toughest genres for a TV series to undertake. As a movie, this type of post-apocalyptic show would be easy to execute, fitting a story line nicely into 90 - 120 minutes. As a TV series, you have to keep the motion of the story line moving along for hours on end. In addition to keeping the story line moving along, you have to maintain a certain degree of realism for the situation.

I believe that Falling Skies achieves these qualities satisfactorily. While my mind occasionally does ponder the obvious contradictions (90% of the people, including the military, have been wiped out, but these rag tag fighters aren't destroyed in the same fashion), I still find the story line intriguing enough to overlook these technicalities.

Overall, this series holds its own against any other shows in this genre, and continues to gain traction with new viewers.

A Serious SG1 but Not a BattleStar Galactica
Fun to watch and does not insult the watchers intelligence. This show is all about family, community & trust. With well developed characters and plot makes it enjoyable to watch

Nightmare On Elm Street, A (BD)

"1, 2, Freddy's coming for you." And here he is, phantom fiend Freddy Krueger in all his razor-fingered infamy. Wes Craven (Scream movies) directs this trendsetting first in the slash-hit series. The premise is simple: Freddy (Robert Englund) homicidally haunts the sleep of Elm Street teens. The results are terrifying and mind-blowingly innovative. There's another film debut too: Johnny Depp. He plays the ready steady of the hottie mcsmarty (Heather Langenkamp) who figures a clever way to flambĂ© the fiend. But ever-say-die Freddy will be 3, 4 back for more…even returning to the screen in a killer 2010 remake of this diabolical original. Sweet dreams!

Review :
Not complete or definitive
Overall this two-set disc DVD is great. It includes many deleted scenes and the sound and picture is great as well.

Although this is certainly not definitive/complete. There are out takes, extended scenes, FX shots, TV spots, etc., that are not included. Such as a dialog between Lt. Thompson and Sgt. Garcia in the police station, more scenes of Nancy getting ready to battle Freddy (like pouring gasoline in that glass bottle she threw at him in the basement), another take of Glen's body rising out of the bed, an extended dialog between Marge and Mr. Thompson at the cemetery, a dialog between Lt. Thompson and Mr. Lantz (Glen's father), etc. These others were released in 1996 on laserdisc by Elite Entertainment and a two-cassette VHS by Anchor Bay. There is also trivia missing from the movie like, for example, the guy who was reading Hamlet aloud in English class is Daryl Hannah's brother. Although there is a discussion of the different types and ways of doing Freddy's makeup,...
Meet Fred Krueger
Freddy Krueger is something else. Robert Englund plays the slasher/boogeyman with the relish of a Batman villian without sacrificing his menace. Compared to Jason or Michael Meyers, Freddy is the life of the party...or the death of it if he catches you asleep. Not that this first installment of the Nightmare series is full of laughs. In his first appearance Freddy is truly scary. But he enjoys being scary and as audience members we enjoy being scared by him. As a horror personality Freddy is unequaled and seeing how he was introduced to audiences you can see that he was both a charismatic monster and a terrifying threat from the start.
But I need to admit something: I generally think less is more where blood is concerned. It's a matter of taste, I know, but that said I decided I really like this movie.
This is an unabashadly bloody slasher movie but one cannot deny that it is an imaginative one. I have been more terrified by other horror movies But few horror...
The film that revolutionized the horror genre
It is a true testament to writer-director Wes Craven's genius that many people now first think of Scream rather than A Nightmare on Elm Street upon hearing his name. While Scream certainly re-energized the horror movie genre, A Nightmare on Elm Street revolutionized it entirely when it was released in 1984. Twenty years after the fact, the movie doesn't seem quite as scary as it did originally, but this movie has truly shocked and frightened many a moviegoer over the years, resonated with untold numbers of men and women in a new and undeniably powerful way, drawn in many viewers that had never cared about horror before, and introduced one of the greatest, most popular horror icons of past, present, and future in Freddy Krueger.
When you really look at the genesis of this movie, its incredible success is truly mind-boggling. Wes Craven had already made waves in the business with such horror classics as Last House on the Left, but the script for A Nightmare on Elm Street made...

Ken Follett’s best-selling novel is brought to life in a star-studded and critically-acclaimed eight-part miniseries. Emerging from the war-torn shadows of England’s Dark Ages, an idealistic mason, Tom Builder (Rufus Sewell, The Holiday) sets out on a quest of erecting a glorious Cathedral bathed in light. But when that light threatens to illuminate the dark secrets of ambitious Bishop Waleran Bigod (Ian McShane, 2005 Golden Globe Best Actor, TV's Deadwood) and the battling progeny of King Henry, Queen Maud (Alison Pill, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and King Stephen (Tony Curran, Ondine), they’ll stop at nothing to keep those secrets safe. The epic miniseries event also stars Matthew MacFadyen (Frost/Nixon) as Prior Philip, Hayley Atwell (Love Hate) as the beautiful noblewoman Aliena and Donald Sutherland (TV's Dirty Sexy Money) as Bartholomew.

The Pillars of the Earth Episode Summaries

Episode 1: “Anarchy”

The death of King Henry’s heir ignites a battle between Queen Maud and King Stephen to become the successor to the throne. Monk Philip is enticed by an offer from Father Waleran Bigod; in return for his endorsement of Bigod to the appointment of Bishop, Philip will be elected Prior. Tom Builder travels the countryside in search of work.

Episode 2: “Master Builder”

When a fire destroys Kingsbridge Church, Tom presents a plan to Prior Philip to construct a glorious new cathedral filled with light. As Philip politics for funds to aid in the church’s construction, he finds himself caught between Bishop Bigod and King Stephen’s supporter, Earl Percy Hamleigh.

Episode 3: “Redemption”

Prior Philip and Percy’s son William find themselves in a political stalemate as they compete for access to valuable stone. Jack demonstrates amazing artistic prowess as he begins to carve a monument to St. Adolphus and the destroyed Kingsbridge Cathedral. ”

Episode 4: “Battlefield”

William plans his way towards Earldom and soon discovers he is not alone in his ambition; a mysterious knight seeks the same appointment. The battle between Maud and Stephen rages, culminating in hostages from each side being seized. Philip is tortured into confessing to the betrayal of Earl Bartholomew.

Episode 5: “Legacy”

Tom attempts to mediate a camaraderie between Jack and his son, Alfred. However, their intense rivalry for the affection of Bartholomew’s daughter, Aliena, proves too much of an obstacle. Waleran and Regan Hamleigh negotiate a hostage exchange while William mounts an attack on Kingsbridge in an effort to halt Aliena’s pending success.

Episode 6: “Witchcraft”

Aliena’s brother, Richard, is shocked as he emerges from the battlefield only to find his sister destitute and incapable of supporting his knighthood. Aliena is torn between honoring a promise made to her father, Bartholomew, and her love for Jack. A catastrophe in Kingsbridge paves the way for Waleran to orchestrate Philip’s impeachment.

Episode 7: “New Beginnings”

Jack’s travels provide him with valuable information which will aid him in constructing his stepfather’s majestic dream cathedral. Aliena tracks Jack down using only her intuition and the warm trail left by his distinctive carvings. Bigod makes Philip an attractive offer, but it’s one which carries an unattractive price.

Episode 8: “The Work of Angels”

Eight years have passed. Now completely obsessed with the notion of erecting Tom’s cathedral, Jack is unable to focus on anything outside of his divine calling. Aliena remains fixated on securing her family’s right to the Earldom of Shiring and thus, fulfilling the promise she made to her father.

Review :
First 2 Episodes
I can't wait till the entire piece is available because based on the first 2 episodes I was able to watch on instant streaming, it is a PHENOMINAL interpretation of the original book...one of my all time favorites. The characters are portrayed honestly and without the distraction of big name stars. Except of course for Donald Sutherland, who not only is great and recognizable, but blends to whatever character he plays and this role is no exception. The brutality, the vulgarity and the sexuality are all consistent with the historical times so these aspects are not solicitous or titillating. They portray a history that was brute force, political and survivalist in nature. It is a wonderful adaptation of a truly incredible book!

The TV series is good, but the book is better
Early in the series, I was a 5-star fan, but I knocked off a star after there were a few deviations from the plot of the book. Obviously, nearly any book that's being converted to television/movie must be abbreviated or adapted in some way; Ken Follett's original work contained a lot of internal monologue that would have been difficult to translate to screen. The show's strengths are it's epic scale, incredible level of production (sets/costumes/etc.), and PERFECT cast. I honestly can't imagine anyone else as Prior Phillip, Jack, Aliena (although she took an episode to grow on me), Waleran Bigod, Remigius, or almost any other character. So, in summary:

PROS:
- Perfect cast
- Amazing production design, locations/sets, costumes, etc.
- Epic scale

CONS:
-Plot differs from the book as the series goes on

My recommendation: enjoy the show for it's strengths, but do yourself a favor and READ THE BOOK. You will fall in love with this story...
An Ambitious Epic for Television: Year 1
PILLARS OF THE EARTH is an ambitious cinematic adaptation of Ken Follett's novel by the same name. This first season is to be eight episodes, with a 'Season 2' already suggested. The overall message of this historical novel can be summarized as follows: this is a story 'about the building of a cathedral in the fictional town of Kingsbridge, England. It is set in the middle of the twelfth century, primarily during the time sometimes called the Anarchy, between the time of the sinking of the White Ship and the murder of Thomas Becket. The story traces the development of Gothic architecture out of the preceding Romanesque architecture and the fortunes of the Kingsbridge priory against the backdrop of actual historical events of the time. Although Kingsbridge is the name of an actual English town, the Kingsbridge in the novel is actually a fictional location representative of a typical market town of the time'.

Directed by action master Ridley Scott (Hannibal, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) from an Oscar(r)-winning* screenplay by Callie Khouri, Thelma & Louise is an "exhilarating" (The Washington Post), full-throttle adventure hailed as one of the best road movies of all time! Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis star as accidental outlaws on a desperate flight across the Southwest after a tragic incident at a roadside bar. With a determined detective (Harvey Keitel) on their trail, a sweet-talking hitchhiker (Brad Pitt) in their path and a string of crimes in their wake, their journey alternates between hilarious, high-speed thrill ride and empowering personal odyssey even as the law closes in. *1991: Original Screenplay

MGM ... God Bless You!
Before I say anything else: Thelma & Louise is not a male bashing, anti feminist film. If you see it as that you are sadly identifying with the wrong characters! It's a thrilling tale full of life affirming energy and the two leads each deserved twenty Oscars each! On a par with Toys as my favourite film ... and I'm male! This is an alternatively powerful, harrowing and hilarious slice of 90's cinema that ranks among one of the best films ever made.
MGM released Thelma & Louise early in 2001, for a fairly early disc, it carried a strong line up of special features, which happily have found their way on to this SE re-release. The original release had a damn shoddy print quality, as MPEG encoders had still not quite been perfected yet, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 was all over the place!
Not now! The film has been stunningly remastered into anamorphic widescreen, and looks like it could have been made six months ago. The soundtrack also benefits extensively from a good cleaning...
NOT THE SPECIAL EDITION
If you are shopping for the Special Edition with the extra features this is not it. I bought this DVD expecting to see the Thelma & Louise: The Last Journey documentary and the Original theatrical featurette as mentioned in the product details section on amazon. It turns out that the version of this movie that amazon is selling is the regular edition without the bonus material. I have written to amazon three times to inform them of the error and I have called in twice. So far amazon has not updated the web page. If I could rate amazons service I would give them one star. Don't waste your time here if you are looking for the special edition.

More than an exercise in male-bashing
This is an important commercial film aimed at blue collar women who feel victimized by both society and the men in their lives. Directed by Ridley Scott, who directed the science fiction classics, Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982), Thelma and Louise is an on-the-lam chick flick (with chase scenes), a kind of femme Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), somewhat akin to Wild at Heart (1990) and Natural Born Killers (1994) but without the gratuitous violence of those films. Ridley Scott walks the razor edge between femme-exploitation and serious social commentary. Incidentally, the script is by Callie Khouri who wrote Something to Talk About (1995) and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002) which should give you an idea of how men are depicted here.
Susan Sarandon is Louise, a thirty-something Arkansas waitress with an attitude and some emotional baggage, and Geena Davis is Thelma, a cloistered ingenue housewife with a yearning to breath free. Both do an...
